Feature Request: Minifreak Noise Floor Toggle

Hey, I get it. The OG Minifreak is partly analog and that is what gives it that unique Minifreak sound that every fan likes. And that is fine with me.

But I would like to have the option in the VST to turn it the hell off. Thank you.

The workarounds that I have to deal with because of that:

  1. Add channel volume automation to set the volume to zero while the synth is not playing
  2. Rebuilding patches from scratch in other VST’s that don’t have that noise floor “feature”
  3. Printing every part and cutting silence

You are perfectly able to turn off noise in plugins like DX7 V and Farvisa V - so why not in Minifreak as well?

How about you, dear Minifreak user?

Hi @dreikelvin ,

If there is noise, then it’s probably from the FX Distortion with Germanium setting.
Germanium is Vintage distortion and is noisy.
Do you have noise in presets not using this?

You can always use Gate plugins to filter out the noise when idle.

Hi @dreikelvin and thanks for the post.
It’s not possible to ‘switch off’ the analogue parts of The MF as they’re part and parcel of its signal path.
I own a hardware MF myself and haven’t noticed that it’s any more noisy than other synths i own.
Could you post some clips of the noise please?
It sounds like you either have one of the effects, maybe distortion or compressor kicking out some noise, or possibly a defective unit.
Also, have you tried connecting via DIN Midi instead of USB out of interest?

HTH!

that can be an issue, yes. but even if you deactivate all FX modules, you get that basic noise floor. you can see it in an analyzer or proQ (see screenshot) (this one was with minifreak simply on “init”)

Hi again @dreikelvin ,

Yes - It’s true there is a low generel noise at the output. If turning down the volume on the osc’s and playing keys the noise raise.
I don’t know why. I suggest you ask Arturia support. Feel free to post the reply here.

Still a gate can remove that noise, when not playing.

True, there are a variety of workflows to deal with it. But I prefer it to be no extra work for me when mixing my (VST) synths :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll forward this to support but I was hoping that marking this thread as “feature request” might already be seen by some dev browsing the forums.

They probably will. However this might be by design. I agree it would be good to have the noise removed.

With no sound on OSC’s the noise increase playing the keys.
