I’ve been working with AstroLab alongside Analog Lab Pro and the AstroLab Connect app, and I’ve run into some confusion that I think other users may share.
Right now, Analog Lab Pro allows us to “Send Playlist to AstroLab” directly when the keyboard is connected via USB. That’s very convenient — but if the playlist includes sample-based presets (e.g., Piano V, Mellotron, etc.), the samples themselves aren’t transferred unless I separately use AstroLab Connect to add the required content. The result is that some sounds show up on AstroLab but play back silent with “missing samples,” which is confusing if you don’t realize the extra step is required.
Suggestion:
It would be extremely helpful if Analog Lab Pro automatically included required sample data whenever sending a playlist or preset to AstroLab, or at least prompted the user with a clear message like:
“This playlist contains presets that require additional sample content. Please open AstroLab Connect to complete the transfer.”
This would make the workflow much smoother and prevent frustration, especially for new users who expect that sending a playlist from Analog Lab will “just work.”
Thanks for considering this improvement — AstroLab is a fantastic instrument, and small workflow tweaks like this would make a big difference for everyday users.
You can also transfer the sample content using Analog Lab, but you first need to transfer the presets that contain your user samples from Analog Lab to AstroLab, before transferring the Playlists using those presets/samples.
Good point!
It might not be a trivial task, as it would need to avoid duplicating samples when sending multiple presets/playlists that include the same user samples.
Unfortunately, the workflow from Analog Pro to Astrolab v1.5 is still very confusing.
Do we still need to use Astrolab Connect in order to properly sync presets and Playlists made in Analog Pro with Astrolab 1.5?
Could you provide a basic workflow sequence to show how a Playlist is built in Analog Pro V, presets are selected, modified, saved to your User bank and added to your Playlist … and then transferred or synced to your Astrolab 1.5. Please include the use of AstroLab Connect ONLY if required.
Using all three of these together is the confusion point, especially since you have to disconnect Analog Lab from Astrolab when trying to connect AstroLab Connect via WiFi.
See the problem here? Too many required pieces of the puzzle.
I even engaged ChatGPT 5 AI to sort all this out and it FAILED miserably due to all the conflicting information out there.
No, you can manage the presets/samples and Playlists transfers all with Analog Lab.
Create/Edit your User presets in Analog Lab (using the “Open xxxx” option for deep editing if you own the full xxxx instrument or the V-Collection)
Save your edited presets in a User bank (you can use the generic User bank, or create specific user banks, for a show, or for all you user sampled presets. etc…) in Analog Lab
Build your Playlist in Analog Lab, using factory presets and user presets.
Transfer your user presets from Analog Lab to AstroLab
(you don’t have to transfer all your user presets to AstroLab, but at least the ones using custom samples)
Depending how you organized your user presets in Analog Lab soundbanks, you could for instance select all the presets in a specific user soundbanks as transfer them all in one pass. You can also transfer individual presets one-by-one.
Transfer your Playlist from Analog Lab to AstroLab
