[Feature Request] Bi-timbral Jup-8000V

I have been exploring the Jup 8000V some time now and it’s great. As usual, the Arturia additions are welcome and open up the sound design possibilities.

I did once own a JP8000 so feel I can make a valid comparison. Great as the 8000V is, there is one major thing lacking: bi-timbrality. The original, back in 1997, managed 8 voices with 4 notes for each part in layer or split mode. I can still remember how ‘big’ some of its patches sounded in layer mode - even though it was restricted to four notes. That is where the 8000V falls short for me. I tried creating a multi patch in Analog Lab and this proved successful in recreating my experience of the hardware. Of course, it’s even better as each instrument in the multi has its own FX. As an extension of that, I stacked two in Logic and created a Stack which I saved as a patch. That way I have even more control over FX and EQ for each 8000V.

I read that the reason for not adding bi-timbrality was processor power and I understand this. However as SynthxV manages it and I can have two instances of 8000V in Analog Lab, I would think it’s possible.

I hope the Arturia roadmap includes an update to bi-timbral.

Hi, yes we also noted that the original Factory presets could not be recreated without the bi-timbrality, but for a number of different reasons, this is the choice that the product management made. There is no plan to add it in the future at this time.

A workaround is to create a Multi preset with 2 x JUP-8000 V’s in Analog Lab V.

Thanks for the response Lily.

Workaround it is then.

Should anyone want to hear the original bi-timbral Performance patches, I just found this:

I second this. It’s too bad we’re not getting the bi-timbrality, which I assume is just for fear of alienating users with lower-powered computers. I sort of get it: every time Arturia launches a great world-beating new app we get complaints on here from users with low-powered or old computers that the app is too processor-heavy. I understand why from a commercial perspective Arturia would want to be as inclusive as possible, but it’s too bad that the rest of us are denied functionality and have to use workarounds for fear of alienating a minority

Would it be possible for Arturia to add the separate layers of bi-timbral Factory presets as individual Jup-8000V Factory presets and then have Analog Lab Factory Presets that recreate the originals? That way at least we could easily access them as users.

Could be a nice project for an update, or for a bank, I’ll note it! thanks
