I own this synth over a year and love this little beast To absolute perfection for my purpose Minifreak missing just 3 things:
Adding Multi Filter into Digital Effects slots: So, you can use (for example) 24dB LPF Filter without sacrifice second oscillator.
Disconnecting ADSR Envelope from VCA (Gate mode): So, you can disconnect the Amplifier Envelope completly from controlling VCA ADSR stage and then using it for shaping VCF (not shure but think Microfreak has this mode). Because the problem now is, when you want using ADSR Envelope for filter (in MOD Matrix), it automaticlly affecting VCA shaping aswell.
Would be Great adding wavetable oscillator also in second slot (using both oscillators as wavetable)…and would be absolutely dream, if we can add own wavetables into user slots
Midi output of the forced scale from the global scale settings please - great for layering sounds, and/or using it as a controller for other synths whilst remaining in key/scale…
I would like that by having audio input and a “rec” button we could record small fragments of audio (5 or 10 seconds) directly from the audio input and then be able to process those samples with granular synthesis .
Also, taking advantage of the Minifreak’s polyphony, it would be nice to have more grain overlap to get really nice ambient and drone sounds.
I would like to second your number 2 here: Disconnecting the ADSR envelope from the VCA. This would also be a game changer for being able to use one envelope per oscillator like you can with multitimbral synths or partial-based patches etc. I NEED this. I joined the forum just to request this. Haha.
another request especially for pads would be to increase the attack time and change its behavior - as it is right now even when i have it on maximum setting, the sound is immediately there when i press a key as if it wouldn’t start at zero but had an offset already.
its even more noticeable with chords, where it can sound like note stealing.
Regarding the statement about the “Attack Time”: This doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the value itself, even if an even longer time would certainly not interfere with it. This is a behaviour that sometimes occurs and, according to my feeling (someone would have to investigate this more closely), it is a bug, because I have already tried all the settings for “Voice → Poly Allocation” and “Voice → Poly Steal Mode” and “Envelope → Retrig Mode” (Reset / Continue) and I think I have noticed different behaviours there (that is, sometimes like this and sometimes like that with the same setting).
thank you for the reply - i have a similar experience, sometimes the attack fades in smoothly and sometimes it doesn’t. hopefully a future update can solve this
What do you mean HOPEFULLY? This is probably a bug and I intend to return the instrument, if Arturia will not solve this. And I recommend to do this to every owener as well so it will become an eyeopener for Arturia. There are just too many bugs in this instrument. It’s nice when Arturia adds some new features (new oscillator, new effect), but all this should come second. The first priority should always be to correct existing errors so that the product works properly for every buyer!
“also the ability to use arpeggiator functions like mutate and octave within the sequencer would be a great improvement”
Yes!! Pressing SHIFT+RATCHET to ratchet my sequence would be fantastic! Alternatively, the workflow suggested by the OP would also be fine.
I would like to add:
A simple filter as an FX. I love the High Pass filter, but sometimes the result is just too bright and buzzy. Having the ability to put a slight Lowpass filter on top of that would be great!
Being able to set more detail settings in the FX section with SHIFT+PARAMETER_KNOB. For example in the 3 Bands EQ, this could be used to change the center frequency for each band, making it a parametric EQ.
A wavetable with a proper Rhodes sound
An undo function! Pretty often I have reset wonderful patches before saving them by accidentally pressing the Preset knob, resetting the patch to default.
When changing a parameter, having a little indicator of the original value stored in the patch would help a lot! Just show some little square icon in the display when I hit the original value.
Envelope Attack behavior
I agree about the behavior, it feels wrong. Would be nice to have this fixed.
At the top of my wish list is a random button that repeatedly shuffles all of the MiniFreak’s parameters. Let’s go really freaky Arturia Crew and consider this for an future update. Perhaps in the plugin or (and) submenue in the MiniFreak. Than the MiniFreak will turn into a MaxiFreak
Hey Hooo! And what’s about the good old SysEx Data Standard? Saved my life and nerves in lots of live and jammin situations with my good old MKS 80 and Jupiter 6. I can’t believe that it’s not integrated
As someone else who understands product lifecycles, I would agree that having the Minifreak at some point implement SysEx messaging for patch info would be the most backwards compatible way to make sure that, when Arturia has finally and eventually abandoned the Minifreak for its successor or whatever EOL event happens, the users of this fantastic product have a way to continue to use the synth in a way that is compatible with how MIDI synths have been programmed and backed up for decades now.
To have the only backup method for patches rely on Arturia’s own app is a version of vendor lock that is anti-user, and presumes that Arturia will always support the product indefinitely, which old geezers like us know better.
So Arturia, please be good to your users and find a way to implement SysEx or some durable utility that is open source which allows users to truly be able to own and enjoy the product for decades to come.
