ESQ1 Tapes SQ80V Blues

So this may be a shot in the dark… But I have a cassette full of old Banks and Sequences backed up as data from an old ESQ1 (no longer with us). I was wondering if anyone knew of some sort of software that would read this data (presumably from an audio file of the backup)and turn them into SYSX files?

I know the other route would be to find another ESQ, load each bank into the synth from tape, and then transfer each bank to the computer via MidiOX. This would be the normal way. But let’s assume an ESQ is unavailable…

Thoughts?

I found this:

We used a similar type of conversion system to recuperate the Vintage Factory of the SQ80. On forums and through online search you should be able to find something - even asking ChatGPT might help actually

What I wound up doing was complex, but somewhat fun. I was able to simply play the sequences from the ESQ1 via midi out to Ableton Live, and set each track on the ESQ to a separate Midi channel, but setting it so I could still hear the patches. Then I made note of the patches so that I could later load them up from the SQ80.

I then sent the programs out from the ESQ as a midi dump into a sysex program, which I then imported into the SQ80V. It all worked, and it took me three days of work. But I am very happy with the result.

Wow, well done! it must feel good after 3 days to get something a bit obscure like this to work.
