Drum rhythms in astrolab

I haven’t found any drum rhythms in astrolab. I would love to have some that I can jam to. I use loop pedals and want to only have to use my astrolab to put a vibe together. Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kkeough88 !

It’s not a drum machine so it will always be a makeshift (creative) solution.

There’s the mysterious (undocumented?) SFZ engine that plays samples in the Sampler instrument. It would be the logical place. Loops could be imported as samples in the Sampler.
Maybe loops can be imported in EMU, and Pigments but I haven’t tried.

Else, there are loops in CMI.

Still else you choose an Emulator kit, eg. Crispy Drum, Trap kit & Bells, Dirty Harry Drums, etc. and you ARP:

  • long press on ARP and choose rate, press Hold on, sync Straight or Triplets, and play with the TYPE (ordered, reverse, etc.)

Here an example with ARP C eb f# g.

As Francoise mentioned above, you can use any of the sampling instruments (Emulator IIV, CMI V, Synclavier V,…) to either

  • play a Drum Kit / individual drum samples (you can even sequence drum kit patterns in CMI V with its internal sequencer- there’s an example in AstroLab: “83 Breakdance”, and there are more in Analog Lab)
  • load and play drum loop samples

You can also use Bluetooth to play drum tracks / backing tracks from your phone/tablet through AstroLab and play keys on top. (AstroLab has a built-in Bluetooth receiver)

If you use loops in Pigments, you still have to go in the ARP settings.

You don’t turn Aperggio on, but you have to turn Hold ON for the loop to loop endlessly.

In the General settings you can change the tempo (Tempo sync and Tempo internal).
