I spent a lot of time searching for advice to use the Keystep 37 Sequencer with an MS20. I have the mini version that has a midi input which works with the Keystep 37 but it’s more fun exploring CV settings and Korg’s old-school way of doing it. I experimented and figured it out. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone.
Keystep 37 MIDI Controller settings (using MIDI Control Centre):
- Sync Clock In/Out select 1 pulse.
- Pitch CV Output select Hertz per Volt.
- Gate CV Output select S-Trig.
Cable Connections (37 to MS20):
- Gate to KBD Trig In.
- Pitch to VCO 1&2 CV In.
To manually play the 37 Keyboard across the range of the MS20 I set 2 Octaves down; if not higher pitched keys have a constant output. The sequencer works fine without transposing the 37 keyboard down. I’m yet to explore settings in the MIDI Controller that negates the need to drop two octaves for manual playing.
