Hey everyone,
I’ve had a BeatStep for 3 years and I’m at the point where I need to vent a bit. It’s a solid device in theory, but in practice it’s become too unreliable for me to trust in a live or performance setting.
The Issues:
When I’m in CNTRL mode sending pad/knob data to Logic or other software, the EXT SYNC button gets stuck in Slave mode. I can’t toggle it off. The button flickers when I press pads, but it won’t actually switch. Switching back to SEQ mode fixes it, but that defeats the purpose of using it as a controller.
Separately, pressing Shift (to select scale modes) generates unwanted MIDI note data that gets sent to my DAW. Again — Shift should just be a display toggle, not a MIDI transmission trigger.
The Workflow Problem:
I initially thought MIDI Control Center was the culprit (it floods the device with sync commands), but the real issue is that the device gets into corrupted states once you start using CNTRL mode heavily.
Does this happen to anyone else?
