I’m getting random clicks in my audio when sending MIDI notes from Ableton Live to my Microfreak, but only when the MF oscillator type is set to Two Op. FM and paraphonic. When I send the same note pattern from my Ableton Move to the Microfreak, I don’t get these clicks. Also no clicks when playing directly on the synth.
I have tried different MIDI & clock settings on the MF, different USB and power cables without success. I plugged my headphones directly into the MF during playback to make sure it had nothing to do with my audio interface, but the clicks are still there.
It would be great if you could help me narrow down the cause of the clicks.
The only variable in what you do seem to be the notes are send from a Ableton track.
I assume your Move is controlling your MF directly and not through Ableton live.
If that’s correct and your USB connection is okay, then it look like the issue is about the data transfer. It could perhaps be midi latency or that something is wrong with Ableton feature to send midi notes to external devices.
Perhaps check if Ableton have some settings to help on latency or to sync. I don’t use Ableton Live.
If you are using a USB hub, then try a direct connection. Especially if you use unpowered hubs, they can give issues.
Thank you for your reply!
I tried different connections, including direct.
Then I used MuseScore (sheet music software) to send the MIDI and didn’t get the clicks either. So you are right, it must be something to do with Ableton, but I have no idea what. I asked on their Discord and am waiting for an answer.
