Character Limits for Naming Patches?

I am running into an apparent limit on the length of patch names in MiniFreak V.

13 characters seems to be the limit. Is this a feature or a bug?

Anyone have a suggestion for working around this limit?

Most other Arturia V synths seem not to have this limit. For example, the Buchla Music Easel V, Korg MS-20 V, and Pigments allow names up to 32 characters.

Hi @onewe. Welcome back.

My guess is it’s because there is a hardware MiniFreak that share presets with MiniFreak V.
But you can ask Arturia support through your account.

That is exactly the truth - there’s a character limit on the synth. It’s either 13 or 15 characters I believe.

Yeah, that’s right, it’s to allow the patch names not to go off-screen on the hardware.

OK. I have not used Freak hardware, but what you describe is the same as what I see on the tiny screens on KeyLab and MiniLab controllers. That is, the patch name is truncated to fit the width of the particular hardware screen without affecting the ability of patch designers to assign longer, meaningful names.

Can you enter a new patch name directly on the Freak hardware? I had imagined that patches are loaded into the hardware via USB from a computer.

Still, it sounds like an issue that could perhaps be addressed via a firmware update: Add a script that will scroll the patch name rather than truncate it.

I do appreciate the responses to my queries, and the information. Thank you.
