Change root note in sequencer’s custom scale?

Could someone let me know if/how one can change the root note from C in the custom scale option if the sequencer? Transpose is scale-locked so that is not an alternative to move off of C.

Thanks!

Hi @nightshift2020. Welcome to the community.

What do you mean by this?

The Sequencers base note is C. But this only mean that you get the Sequence to play the chosen notes, when you play a C note. If you play another note than C, then the Sequence will be transposed so the played note is the new base note. If you for example play a D note, then the Sequence will be transposed 2 semitones from playing the C note just below.

What they mean is, and now I have the same problem right now, that when I have the global key C Minor, I am unable to get the sequencer to tune in the C Minor scale according to music theory.

When I play the correct chord progressions to C Minor, the various sequencer notes do not behave correctly in the sequencer. They do not tune with the C Minor scale when I DAW is playing for ex. note Eb.

update: Ok, I found a solution thanks to the ability to export the pattern as a MIDI clip and drag it into the DAW.

In the DAW, simply transpose it as I need. This turns the sequencer into a static definition of MIDI notes, which is a disadvantage, but it works correctly and tunes.

This procedure is a workaround for me how to tune correctly in scales.

It would be worth adding an option to ACID-V to add an item to ignore transposition in the scale. Something like Play just C. Because the recalculation is always absolute to the root note coming from MIDI and that’s a problem!

In simple: C Minor scale (contain Minor and Major chords as well) and Acid-V don’t respect this.

Brief description of main issue.

In general all music theory scales, here for example C Minor scale
(contain Minor and Major chords as well) and Acid-V don’t respect this scales.

This video is showing, how Major Minor chords aren’t respected in C Minor scale.

This video is showing workaround, how to use Acid-V sequencer in three instances to switch Major Minor scale via automatization. It is crazy and unusable workaround. More easy is to use external sequencer respected Scales like Scaler 3 plugin. So just for fun.

Hi @tomasmark79 ,

Scales also have diminished chords. That’s all basic triads in a scale only.
You wan’t it to play Eb major When you play a Eb note. But that’s not how it work. It work like i described above. The scale you set is for example minor. And by default it’s based on the C note.
The scale feature in Acid V is’nt a music theory chord feature. I do understand your wish. But where have you got the idea it work like that?

The coded sequence can have chord change in it in any way you want. Probably using the chromatic scale setting.

A workaround can suggest there is a bug, but that’s not the case. You can wish for and request the feature you want.

EDIT: It could be great, if Scales could be changed by a parameter. EDIT END
