Cable kit

Hi, I am 14 years old, I have Arturia KeyLab Essential 49 Mk3.
What cable kit and equipment do I need to use offline in the school scene?
(I have Behringer UMC204 Audio Interface, Analog lab V and Laptop)

The audio connection device in the school scene is like in this picture, it needs to be connected here!

Chat suggested GPT, I wonder which one it should be? Also, does the cable length matter?
Thank you very much in advance for those who will help!

Hi @DC2010

To be honest, if you are recording the final product into a DAW, you would be better off installing AnalogLab V to that computer and playing it with your KLE from there instead.

If you MUST record the way you are suggesting, then you need to find out what those tie lines are connected to in the studio. Are they connected to a patch bay or mic preamps?
If it’s to a patch bay, then just use two TRS/XLR cables as in your last picture.

That’s a really ‘Heath Robinson’ way of going about this though as it’s needlessly complex in comparison to the method i suggested first.

Hi Matjones!
First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to inform me.
I will be using Midi KeyLab for the first time in the rehearsals we will do at school before the concert. So I did not know how to connect it to the school’s sound system during these rehearsal days. Also, the professional sound team will come on the concert day, which will be 10 weeks later, and they have Patchbay. (I think there will be no connection problem with the cables that day)
I installed AnalogLab V on my own laptop. (I play KeyLab at home)
I never thought about recording it to a DAW. Because we will be playing a live performance with the orchestra.
As a result, as you said, I will buy a TRS/XLR cable and use it.

Thanks again :pray::heart_eyes:

Hi again @DC2010

Ah ok that makes much more sense now.
If it’s a live situation, then the likelihood is that that’s a ‘stage box’ which will most likely run to and terminate in the mic preamps on a mixing desk. This would mean that you will need some kind of ‘DI’ or ‘Direct Injection’ box to alter the signal to be suitable.
I’d imagine your school possibly has at least one DI box, but i would check with them first.
If you’re a keyboard player who’s planning on playing live into a PA system, particularly using an audio interface, it might be worth you investing in one or two DI boxes for yourself.
The range in price is pretty wide, i use Radial Engineering JDI, ProD2 and EXTC Stereo boxes myself, but they are right at the top end of quality and price. They ARE built like they were designed to survive Armageddon though

It’s something you might want to ask for for xmas or maybe a birthday present at some point, they seem a bit ‘boring’ but they’re INCREDIBLY useful if you’re planning on playing live through a PA and using other keyboards/synths/E-Drums etc in the studio.

HTH!

Ps,

You will need TWO 1/4 inch standard instrument cables, like a guitar lead, if you’re using a DI box, DI boxes are balanced so you won’t need TRS cables.
You’d plug the two instrument cables into the DI box (if it’s stereo, one if it’s mono of course) and then standard XLR cable/s from the DI box into the stage box.

HTH!

Please ignore the first version of this post as this edit contains some corrections after i thought about your situation a little more.

hello master,

I am getting great information from you. I heard DI Box for the first time and I researched it immediately.
I will buy it as soon as possible. The 2-channel one suits me, I sometimes record with the piano for youtube and I will add Arturia KeyLab sounds from now on.
I am just at the beginning of the road, I am learning a lot from masters like you. It has been about 5 years since I started playing piano. (I will take the LCM Grade 5 level exam when school is on summer vacation)

Thanks again :pray::two_hearts::heart_eyes:

Lol i am no ‘master’, i’m just a fair bit older than you and have had more time and experince
Asking questions is a good thing though, never be embarrassed about it!
If i were you, i would speak with whoever is running the show, possibly one of your teachers, to see exactly what is at the other end of that stage box to see exactly what you are going to need.
It’s always worth having things like different types of cables, T/S and TRS in your own case, as well as things like DI boxes.
If and when you play larger gigs through larger PA systems, MOST decent PA firms will carry their own DI boxes, although their quality might not be the best, so it’s worth having your own.
You might want to think about some kind of personal monitor amp too at some stage as it’s not always easy to hear yourself on stage through the ‘foldback’ (monitoring system), or if you’re at a smaller gig sharing a small PA with a vocalist.
That’s something to think about for the future though.

Hope your gig goes well, let us know how you get on too.
