A far as I can tell, you need to use both an external USB drive and Astrolab Connect to completely backup and restore an Astrolab keyboard. Astrolab will only backup and restore Playlists to USB devices while Astrolab Connect only handles Presets and Banks.
You can also use Analog Lab but that requires a computer be available for both operations which may not be practical in a stage environment.
Only Analog Lab can be used to store Presets/Playlists from an AstroLab, and to transfer Presets/Playlists to an AstroLab. Indeed, this requires a computer.
The USB Host port on AstroLab is only used to import Playlists into AstroLab from a USB drive, not to export them.
AstroLab Connect is only used as a “remote control + display” for AstroLab, but does not store any data.
It does allow downloading Soundbanks directly from the Arturia Sound Store to AstroLab, when connected to internet via a WiFi network.
I believe that AstroLab backup/restore without using a computer will be added in future updates, but I don’t have a timeframe for that update.
So, as of 1.50, Astrolab behaves much like Nord keyboards in regards to Backup and Restore as they too only support those operations with an attached computer.
That’s important to know because that information isn’t readily available!
How do I know that? Because I had CHATGPT 5 scour the Internet and it came up with the wrong answer (the one I sent initially).
I’d recommend you put something in the FAQ about this as it’s important.
Stuart.
