When I work in the DAW I use hardware sends, and to make that work I have to set the USB source to the Analog out, it works fine. But sometimes I’d like to switch back to the 16Rig Mixer and use the Aux Sends on there for monitoring reasons etc.
Is there a way that I can route my Aux’s to the same hardware sends without having to change anything in the matrix? Would this be a good reason to use the Cue Mix?
create 2 different presets in AF16Rig with different routings (yes, that means changing in the matrix using AFCC, but then, switching presets can be done on the AF16Rig itself)
one with USB sources for the Analog outputs, as you normally do
one with the mixer’s Aux sends as sources for the Analog outputs.
Use only one preset with the mixer’s Aux sends as sources for the Analog outputs.
In that case, you have to add the USB channels from DAW sends to the mixer inputs, with their fader volume 0 in the mix, but each sent to the matching Aux send of the mixer (which means you have to set the Aux sends as “Pre” fader instead of Post fader).
If it’s only for “monitoring reasons”, that might be what the Cue Mix is for, rather than using Aux sends.
Not sure what you’re trying to achieve.
I’m not entirely positive what I’m trying to achieve either, I just often will mess around either in the DAW or standalone, and sometimes it’s frustrating setting up the effects routings over and over. But I think the preset move (which I’ve just done) is probably the best way. I need to mull over the second option you gave, that sounds really ideal but I’m worried that it will effect my gain staging overall. If not, that is definitely what I’m looking for. Thanks for the advice!
HI @ancaja123
Just to chime in, that’s some EXCELLENT advice there from @Sean_W
I use an RME device which has a matrix based approach, as well as a more conventional one, with their TotalMix software; and i often create different routing scenarios for different applications, such as AUX send/return, reamping etc.
Once you become familiar with it, it’ll become second nature, and you’ll wonder why you never did it before!
