Atmos mixing, mastering and playback

Hi,

Can I do atmos mixing and mastering with the 16rig? I already have Audiofuse Studio. Would I run the 16 rig separately to my Mac or would I connect the two?

Even better, add AF 8pre and have a full 7.1.4 capability per immersive audio feature request?

Also, can I playback Atmos commercial mixes through the 16rig from Apple or Tidal?

Thanks,

Morten

Hi,

Do not hesitate to contact our support team for further details.

Yes, the AudioFuse 16Rig is designed for immersive mixing, supporting formats up to 9.1.6, including Dolby Atmos.

The 16Rig allows you to route audio from any USB, analog, or ADAT channel to any speaker in your immersive system. This means you won’t need any additional hardware to listen to Atmos music from Apple Music.

For mixing Atmos music, you’ll also need an Atmos mixing software, such as the Avid Atmos Renderer.

If you’re using the 16Rig with another interface, simply connect the 16Rig to your computer via USB. The other interface, such as an AudioFuse 8Pre, will function as an additional input module, connected via ADAT to the 16Rig, adding eight more input channels.

Let us know if you need any further information.

Bests,

Thank you Niks.

Since I already have the AF Studio, could I add an AF 8pre through ADAT and then do 7.1.4? Seems like there are enough outputs.

Volume control wise we would need a firmware upgrade. Please please please. The AF Studio and 8pre have not received any love love for a long time.

Or at least for mixing and mastering use the master out level of Logic to control overall system volume.

Any other considerations?

What do you think?

Hi,
I believe the AudioFuse8pre has been out of stock for a while, and you can only find 2nd hand units at this time, if I’m not mistaken. But the new AudioFuse X8 In (8 line inputs to ADAT) and X8 Out (ADAT to 8 DC-coupled line outputs) are available.

Controlling the volume of all the immersive speakers from one knob is a feature of AudioFuse16Rig 2.0 (including bass management for the sub/LFE).

As you know, it’s not currently possible to do this on the AudioFuse Studio, which was designed as an audio interface with Stereo monitoring (including 2 pairs of speakers, 2 separate headphones outputs with 2 cue mixes, talkback mic, bluetooth receiver, USB hub, etc…).
I don’t know if the hardware could support a firmware update to allow controlling master volume over the ADAT output (which can be converted to 8 analog outputs with the new AudioFuse X8 Out). All I know that it has already been suggested/requested, if possible.

Got the AF 8pre (used). Works great with the Studio. I can indeed send out signals to full Atmos 7.1.4. Confirmed that it works with Apple Music for commercial mixes as well. I will combine this for Dirac Live RCS multichannel + Basscontrol. Worst case, I will use the overall volume on Dirac for volume control. Would be great though if a firmware update could enable controlling all the outputs. I am using the following mapping:

Left Right: Speakers to SPDIF (also for stereo)
Center+Sub: Cue 2 to AUX
Surround: ADAT 1-2 to Analog 1-2 out on 8pre
Rear surround: ADAT 3-4 to Analog 3-4 on 8pre
Front height: ADAT 5-6 to Analog 5-6 on 8pre
Rear height: ADAT 7-8 to Analog 7-8 on 8pre.

Even have outputs for a few more speakers.

What I would like updated on the AF Studio is:

  • Long press Arturia button shuts down the interface like the other AFs
  • Ability to have the volume knob adjust level of all analog and digital outputs. It can already do so for speaker output and SPDIF output, so shouldn’t be impossible

What I would like for AFCC:

  • Ability to save presets that can be recalled. so I can have a stereo preset, an ATMOS preset, and a preset for producing. The ability to save and recall presets should be of value to all Audiofuse interfaces.

Don’t really care about bass management, I would want to do that with something like Dirac Live since it is much more advanced in subwoofer integration and optimization of performance of the whole system in the room.
