My Astrolab 61 now freezes on a regular basis. Twice tonight, three times yesterday, on occasion previously. Not good for gigs. It is while playing. I cannot duplicate the freezing, and don’t know what causes it. Clearing stuck notes by pressing the looper play and record buttons doesn’t work. I have to reboot. The latest Astrolab and Analog Lab software is installed. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Hi, not sure what’s causing this, but it is absolutely not normal behavior.
When you say this is happening “now”, do you mean it wasn’t happening before?
If so, what changed?
Off the top of my head, I would look first into things:
-
Firmware:
If the freeze started happening after a firmware update (current version is 1.5), it could mean that the firmware was somehow corrupted, and it would be worth running the update again, without being online (i.e. downloading the firmware file manually first, and then starting the update process in Analog lab using the “update from file” option). -
Power:
Is the AstroLab’s power supply plugged into a stable power source? Are there other devices on the same outlet/circuit that could generate spikes or micro-cuts in power?
Have you tried a protected power strip?
Other than that, what other devices is the AstroLab connected to? (computer via USB, phone/tablet via Wifi / Bluetooth, MIDI devices, …)
Does the freeze happen when the AstroLab is standalone, or only when it’s communicating with Analog Lab or with AstroLab Connect, or when it’s receiving MIDI/USB from another device?
If the problem persists, you should contact Arturia Support.
It happens at different locations and both standalone and connected to computer. Do I have to delete 1.5 then reinstall it? Will I lose my own presets and playlists? Could you please outline detailed steps to reinstall 1.5 ? Thanks.
Hi @Kari
Sorry to hear this is happening, rather serious for sure!
I’m pretty sure Arturia Support are going to want to know about this, so if you could log in to your account to contact Arturia Support I’m sure they would be grateful to hear from you.
Also, if your unit is still under warranty, you should be able to get a replacement or repair from the original retailer if you should so wish.
HTH!
Updating the firmware should not lose user presets/playlists.
Come think of it, another thing that could be useful when performing an update would be to Reset to Factory Settings (only the settings, not the presets/playlists).
On the AstroLab, this is done in Home/Settings/Utility: “Initialize all Settings”.
You don’t have to delete 1.5. You can just re-install it over the current firmware.
(although, you could first revert to earlier firmware such as 1.3.5)
Again, especially if you have a slow internet connection, I would recommend downloading the 1.5 firmware file on your computer first (from https://dl.arturia.net/products/astrolab-61/firmware/AstroLab_1.5.0_b192__1_5_0.astro) and then selecting the Update from File option.
