I am evaluating getting an Astrolab
I noticed there was a CPU upgrade in the 88 keys versions. Was wondering whether it was possible to upgrade the Astrolab 61 CPU / motherboard too, afterwards ?
(to improve the instrument switching time / polyphony)
Hi,
the preset switching time (which is really only noticeable on instruments using samples) has been improved in firmware update 1.4.4 and the newest 1.5.0.
Most synth/modeled presets switch almost instantaneously (and the notes held from the previous preset are still sounding until playing new notes on the next preset).
The CPU upgrade on the AstroLab88 is a different hardware, and I don’t think there’s any way to modify the AstroLab61. I haven’t heard abut any option of change the entire motherboard.
It’s not the switching time that bothers me as much as the low polyphony (3 voices) in complex synths like Pigments, and the relatively small amount of RAM.
The processor is simply under-powered for what it is asked to do.
