ASC is still dreadful

I previously made a post about ASC and how bad it is. It’s time for another post on the same subject.

Some bright spark (dimwit) at Arturia decided that ASC should automatically update itself when it is opened. But the update fails. EVERY TIME. It gets to somewhere about 90%, then it fails.

Seriously, who at Arturia thought it was a good idea to automatically update without giving us the option?

Come on, Arturia. Get a grip. Your instruments are good. But ASC sucks so badly. It doesn’t need much. Why is it so bad? Why can you not make a download app that works?

Hi,

I just checked and ASC is working for me, and I have never had this issue myself.

Sadly issues do pop up on different systems under a large verity of configurations.

Please raise this with our support team so they can investigate why this is happening to you:
https://www.arturia.com/support/ask-for-help

I would appreciate you keeping the insults to a minimum in the future. No one is purposefully trying to cause this problem.
Again, I am sorry that you are having this issue, but it is not a universal issue that I can see.

Our support will do their best to help you out.

I did raise it previously with support. And their so-called help was just a waste of my time. They did not resolve anything. In the end I just gave up.

I don’t see any part of my comment here today as an insult. I have had way too many problems with ASC. Calling out somebody who decided to do automatic updates without user intervention is not an insult. It’s absolutely boneheaded. If you have a car with electronics, and when you try to turn it on it decides to do an automatic update BEFORE you can go anywhere, would you say that is good design?

For info, I’ve been programming for well over 30 years. This is just stupid.

I think “dimwit” counts as an insult. I can understand your frustrations but would urge you to persevere with Arturia support.

I was getting a similar issue with updating my firmware recently. What OS are you using? For some reason it would randomly work when i closed the background app and allowed the pop up to be front and center? It could just be coincidental however.

Bad Example. Ever owned a Tesla? they go even further in that the car can and will go into update mode at any time and its not that you just can’t drive the car, but in update mode you can’t even open the doors.

But as for ASC, it’s sort of a no win catch. I have a Mac and when Pigments 6 came out it wouldn’t work at all. Tuned out that they had put several updates to ASC and as I didn’t run it in about forever, I was versions behind so that was why it didn’t want to work.

But I have had other really terrible experiences with ASC design. Like my Mac has a rather small local SSD inside. I had commented on the ASC decides to install every plugin VST/3 AU AAX when I only need one of them. Plus it installs the App that I most likely don’t want or need. I was told to turn off the Silent Install something function that now gave me the choice of what I wanted, but TOTALLY UNUSABLE as it then bring up the menu for every single app plugin it installed. Try that with doing an install of both V-Collection and FX-Collection (73 plugins installs). And to make matters worse, I did make it through it with 2 plugins that stalled and didn’t install. And the wording on the options I accidentally selected an uninstall rather than getting it it finish the missed 2 plugins. so I got to watch it uninstall everything without a kind dialog box asking me if I am really sure I was to remove all the software. So I go to sit though it all over again with having to manually select the plugin options I wanted for the 73 plugins all over again.

Now I REAL installed would give you the silent option but let you select what plugin options you’d want. I get they have their own copy protection and licensing built into ASC that forces you to put up with the crap. I personally hav had ZERO issues ever with iLok and would prefer that over a bug version of ASC. But others have different experiences.

But from the side of the actual plugins. This was why I bought Arturia. The plugins are fantastic so you look past the troubles with everything else because the instruments and FX are that good.
