Hi,
I wonder if Arturia has any plugin capable of doing proper sidechain like VolumeShaper does.
I don’t want to route anything, just draw a sidechain “shape”.
Thanks

Hi @pkolano ,
No afaik Arturias have currently no audio plugins like the VolumeShaper you mention.
The question is what you actually want to do?
Arturias Reverb Intensity have a build in Envelope Follower, LX-24 have a Ducker.
Modulators can be used in Arturias instruments and some have Envelope followers also to be used with external audio input/ Sidechain.
@pkolano If you’re referring to the typical ‘pumping’ type synth often used in EDM, then a ‘proper side chain’ way of doing it is to use a compressor which has its detector controlled by a side chained signal, usually the kick drum, to ‘duck’ the synth/s you wish to ‘pump’.
You’ll need to time the ‘fade in’ by setting the compressor’s recovery time by ear.
HTH!
I don’t like using compressor as it’s too cumbersome and requires are trigger.
With VolumeShaper you can just select a preset, and do other cool gated effects etc.
I’m getting rid of a lot of my plugins and try to mostly stick to Arturia’s plugin, was hoping that perhaps some plugin would allow for something similar.
Hi again @pkolano
If you have The Arturia Compressors, then you can already do this with any of them, i know you said you found using compressors to do this as cumbersome, but stick with it and before long it will be second nature to you. You’ll also learn A LOT about each of them if you try each of them to see which best serves your needs.
Personally, i usually use a stock compressor as they’re transparent, the Arturia ones are more ‘coloured’ by design to match the units they’re based on… that can kick up some interesting tonalities by themselves…
Music and music production are often as much about exploring things and using things in ways we might not be familiar with or in ‘unconventional’ ways.
Just reaching for presets all the time is rather self defeating when it comes to creativity too as everyone else has those presets as well…
There are numerous ‘pumper’ type plugins on the market for very little money currently and they’re really aimed at a fairly small section of the market if we look at it from a broad perspective, so, my own personal opinion is that it would be unlikely for Arturia to pursue something along these lines, i could be completely wrong though of course.
You MIGHT be able to use efx-motions to do what you’re after too, but it’s rather deeper than just an amplitude ‘shaper’, for want of a better term. It’s on sale currently so you could try it out for free for a while, and if it’s for you, get it for a REALLY good price if you don’t already have it in your arsenal.
HTH!
I can support to check out Arturias multi effects (EFX) and Filters and other effects.
As said, then it depends on what you want to achieve. Perhaps you can do what you want and more with Arturias excisting plugins.
