I’m trying to use Analog Lab in my DAW (CAKEWALK) without taking the MKII. I have my guitar synth(GR-20) playing into MIDI inputs. I can select the inputs from m track, other synths work fine. Under the inputs listed in AL there are all Arturia controllers, factory, laboratory, generic 9 knows and generic 9 knobs and 9 faders. Isn’t there a way to control AL with generic MIDI? Thanks.
Hi @markusb111 and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!
I have not used Cakewalk since Pro Audio 8 waaaaaaaaaay back in the early 2000s unfortunately, but the process should be more or less the same for any DAW.
Let’s take this a step at a time…
Let’s take the KL MKII out of the equation for the moment.
Let’s start from your GR-20, again i’m not familiar with it, but it SHOULD work the same as any other midi device?
Set it to midi channel 1 and its midi mode to ‘Omni Off, Poly Off’… so that it only transmits monophonically and only to a specified midi channel.
What audio interface are you using exactly? Does it have midi ports on it?
Let’s pause there for now.
I don’t have a problem with the GR-20 anymore as I found how to set everything up and it works well. I’m using a Focusrite Scarlett 4I4 4th Generation interface. It has 5 pin MIDI in and out. I’m using the newest free version of Cakewalk, which won’t be free much longer. I think the solution may come from Arturia’s MIDI control center. I just, at this point, want to get my MKII working as a straight up MIDI controller.
HI again @markusb111
Great to hear your GR-20 issues are sorted now… they look like a lot of fun actually! It’s a shame no one has found a workaround the ‘first cycle’ issue for bass as there must be loads of bassists severely envious of being able to play synths from their instruments, i know i am!!!
Anyway, back to you… Let’s stick with AnalogLab and your KL MKII for now, we can factor in your DAW later on…
Try loading an instance of the standalone version of AL and checking it’s on midi channel 1, if you’re on PC then use the ASIO driver for your 4i4 for audio.
Connect your KL via USB, then run Arturia MCC to check your KL is on midi 1 send and rec.
Then run AL again and open the advanced settings with the ‘cog’ in the upper right hand corner, select ‘midi’, and under ‘midi controller’ you can select your KL MKII. Ignore the ‘fader mode’ setting for now.
Close advanced settings and try to play something from your KL MKII.
Please let us know the results…
HTH!
