Aftertouch

I love my Keylab, but the aftertouch is awfully hard to trigger: I really have to press to trigger it. AT Min is 0, Max is 127, sensitivity is High. Is there something I’m missing?

In comparison the AT on the Keystep 37 is like butter.

Hey @pentermezzo

Have you tried adjusting its velocity curve at all?
From memory, you should be able to do by hooking it up to Arturia’s Midi Control Centre and customising the settings yourself from there.

HTH!

The Aftertouch curve, in addition to the velocity curve, can be selected on the KLmk3 itself, in the Settings / Keyboard tab, where you already have the Aftertouch Min/Max values and Sensitivity.
The Curve can be set to Global (as defined in Settings / Global /Global Curves), Linear, Logarithmic, Exponential or Custom (the 5-points Custom Curve is also defined in Settings / Global /Global Curves)

Hi,

I’m interested in how the controller work.

May i ask:

Is it a choice between either using the Global Curve setting or the Sensitivity setting or are they/ can they be combined?

For me Curves should be used to fit the nuances in my playing going from soft to hard.
The sensitivity to set how fast/ hard to play to hit the max value in a linear curve or in any other curve.
Two values to adapt the functionality to ones personal playing style. Some play softer/ harder than others and have a personal natural playing curve.
I don’t think a curve should be used too hit max modulation values at a lower velocity only like a - except within the set sensitivity - as that effectively will reduce how many velocity steps and nuances the playing can have.

So how exactly does it work?

Is it the same for both Aftertouch and Velocity?

Also is the Sensitivity working so a HIGH setting mean it respond at a lower touch?

That’s a VERY good question! :+1:

Thank you all so much for your advice! I will try working with the velocity curve for the AT. I am still learning about what goes on under the hood.

Curiosity is a REALLY good thing to have often times when it comes to this kind of thing, it can be a lot of fun too.

I personally use a custom curve 0/1/14/53/127 to slow down the aftertouch, its set on hight sensitivity, its too hard and too fast for me and still like that!

So would you be able to use it in poly ? I wont it will hurt I think on some chords positions my fingers cannot use it like it should be, the aftertouch look on a felt inside that make the keybed silent

we can select any velocity preset or the custom velocity curve for each key / key aftertouch/ pad / pad aftertouch
but just one custom curve can be edit so choose the one that need the custom curve for your wishes or apply the same curve to others… its how it works
and sensitivity in addition can be setting for pads and keys aftertouch but not the keys and the pads aftertouch

regarding to the good velocity sensitivity of the keybed I think the curve is really missing points but can help but I wont use it for the keys

for poly aftertouch I use the pads who look better for that than finger drumming, the poly after touch on the pads in really precise and with the light feed back its nice

the key aftertouch sensibility should be really slower or sensitive in the way it work like the higher sensitivity for now should be at minimum the lower to be usable

maybe they solved it in the sooooo waiiiiiting next firmware update ^^ one year after I wish they do something nice, im still waiting…

hope it can help

Thanks for your input @Ben972.

I agree that one of the things that make a good keybed with velocity and aftertouch, is to not add aftertouch when playing hard for high velocity. I would like kind of a stop point for velocity, and then first after a repress or a further press the aftertouch should be engaged. But perhaps that’s rather expensive to do. A delay parameter before the Aftertouch kick in can perhaps also help.

I still want both a curve setting and a sensitivity parameter like explained above for both Velocity and aftertouch no matter it’s mono or poly aftertouch. But i would like to have normal (not MPE) poly aftertouch option.

Unfortunately we also live in a time where all my musical instrument stores with this kind of hardware is gone from my city. That’s a backside to internet stores. If only internet stores had showrooms to test in. I would like somewhere to try controllers out before buying.
