After the rain - PIanoteq - Piano V3

After the rain (John Coltrane)
(imperfect execution)
No processing or normalization so turn the volume up.

Pianoteq Steinway D Classical in home setting
Amplebass Upright Bass

Arturia Piano VAmerican Grand in home setting
Amplebass Upright Bass

Same midi track, rendered in Cubase without any processing
Both with flat equalizer and “equivalent” velocity curves
I lowered the Hammer hardness a little bit in Piano V3 (so many tweaks possible)

Thanks for posting @francoise
Interesting stuff! Just like McCoy Tyner himself is in the room!

Would be even better if you dropped some Sax over them! :sunglasses:

Alas, I’m no McCoy Tyner! I’m a guitar player on a keyboard. McCoy Thinner, maybe :face_with_peeking_eye:.
I didn’t polish the execution, I thought it would be interesting to compare the two pianos.
I may be wrong but I think they’re close and can be made closer by tweaking.

The piece from a jazz fakebook is a bit hard to play since the chords are based on either Eb or Ab: eg. Bb Major on Eb, G on Eb, Ab Major on Eb, etc. I’m not used to this kind of voicing.

That’s a step up from me, i play like i have boxing gloves on! :weary::sob::rofl::rofl:

Yes, that’s an interesting comparison for discussion for sure!

[Edited for typo.]

A hard hitter with punchy lines?
Unamazingly, someone’s done it (YouTube: Eye Of The Tiger on Piano wearing Boxing Gloves).

Interesting comparison. The two piano sounds are quite close.

Do you have Pianoteq Bösendorfer Concert Grand 280VC and Shigeru Kawai SK-EX?
It could be interesting to compare those too, to the the Steinways…

I thought they were close; thank you for your confirmation.

Unfortunately I don’t have the Bosendorfer nor the Kawai.
They were both recently introduced after I bought the Pro license. I would have to pay for these new pianos. I have not tested the Bosendorfer but the Kawai is great.

I presume the Bosendorfer would compare to the Piano V3 German Grand, in my opinion darker than the American Grand. I like darker pianos. I have the Petrov (Keith Jarrett recorded on the Petrov) which is darker than the Steinway.

Perhaps i will test the Pianos my self some day. Thanks.
