32 vs 64 bit replacement

Hey guys. I have V Collection 6 installed but now I have purchased V Collection X. When I try to install, it shows me the following popup message:

Lets say I have projects that use Wurli V2 for example, if the 32 bit gets deleted will the 64bit still open the project with the preset that I saved it with? Or will the preset get lost?

Thank you!

Hi @sytrusze,

You have’nt done free updates for a long time, if you still have 32 bit plugins. Are you sure you have used the 32 bit versions in your projects? Have you run 32 bit projects in your DAW? I suggest you check that. Arturia have had 64 bit plugins for a decade.

In the Wurli case, then V-Collection X have the upgraded Wurli V3. It does’nt share presets with the V2 version you have, as they are not compatible. For that reason your Wurli V2 should not be affected by the install of V-Collection X. Wurli V3 install alongside installed Wurli V2.
Your Wurli V2 will only get updated, if you update that in your V-Collection 6.

32 and 64 bit plugins shared the same presets.
Bridges was used to use 32 bit plugins in 64 bit projects.
I think there was bridge ways to use 64 bit plugins in a 32 bit project, but i don’t think it was used much.
I doubt a 64 bit version can replace a 32 bit version just like that. But i don’t know for sure.

Old installers are still for download in the archives here:

I think they still install the 32 bit version, if you for example pick the exact full version number you already have.

You can try things out.

I can suggest you render your 32 bit plugin projects to audio before updating, if you indeed have used 32 bit plugins.

I am going to give you my two cents here. BEFORE you install, and lose the 32bit versions… Find them and put them in a custom folder. Believe me, you will thank me later. I went through this with Native Instruments, and Arturia. I had Ableton Live 9, which had projects running some older 32bit ones, and had tons of issues opening old stuff… By copying the old 32bit versions to a custom folder, should you ever need them, they can be pointed to.

At the very least, any old project you care about should be ported over to the latest DAW version, and checked. Or, at least freeze the tracks so you have an audio backup.

Just my two cents.

Thank you guys both! And yeah, you are right. It doesn’t hurt to copy them to a custom folder indeed. I’ll try that. Thank you!
