16rig - Loopback does not work in Ableton [solved]

Windows 11 latest
Ableton 12 beta

I thought this was intended functionality and was going to return the unit, but then tried Loopback in Reaper and it works fine… which is great!!

But as soon as I open Ableton 12 beta, the loopback channels cease to function, no audio, no metering etc.

I have disabled exclusive mode on every input and output and tried reinstalling firmware/drivers a few times, restarted my machine a few times. As soon as Ableton turns on the ASIO drivers all the non-asio loopback audio does not work…

Ideas?

Update:

Okay I managed to make it work!!!

I am still unclear as to what fixed it but…

Steps I took:

  1. Updated to Latest Ableton Beta 12.1.b10

  2. Went through every single input/output in Windows Sound Settings and turned off exclusive mode.

  3. Went through every single input/output in Windows Sound Settings and set the sample rate to 24bit/48khz - This was the only way I could get the 16rig to stop switching samplerate based on whatever program was outputting audio which is why I think it was having trouble…

I suspect this is mostly a windows/arturia driver weirdness/

  1. I set the default output device in Windows to the loopback channel and set the listen device as the main output, just putting this here incase someone doesn’t understand why they can’t hear the main output if they’re trying to loopback in windows.

hope this helps, glad i don’t have to return this unit
