[SOLVED] Mod Matrix - Responsive, but not working?
« on: December 06, 2019, 02:10:55 am »
Ok ... so I just bought a (hopefully) lightly used MatrixBrute off Reverb.com, just got here yesterday. Off the cuff, this thing sounds amazing! Except for seemingly one problem ...

I can't seem to get the mod matrix to work  ???

Everything lights up, all the buttons seem to react exactly as the tutorials and manuals suggest ... but if I, say, press the button to modulate VCO1 pitch with LFO1, nothing happens, regardless of what settings I switch to. All the lights light up on the matrix, so presumably it's not a problem pressing the button; and all the other knobs on the panel seem to work and respond as expected. I'm hoping it's just something dumb that I'm doing, but any help in how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.

When you created a modulation path (e.g. VCO1 & LFO1) did you also dial in a positive or negative mod amount using the Mod Amount knob?

yes ... both positive and negative mod amounts seem to have no effect.

Reading through some of the other posts, I've also connected it via midi to my computer, and in the midi control center, I've verified that this was already upgraded to firmware 2.0 (prior to my taking ownership). Also, I verified that "Local Control" is set to "On".

Curiously, on any presets that I set ... I can go through and unhighlight all of the mod panel connections (again, the lights turn on and off, the mod amount shows the value, etc), but it doesn't seem to change the preset sound at all. Is there some sort of parameter lock somewhere?

Hey.

Can you make sure each boards have been correctly updated, by proceeding as below?

Check the board version: Hold PLAY + the buttons in red to display the concerned board version.
(On the first check, you will need to press it twice to display the board revision.)

The revisions should be the following:

Button Module Version
Patterns : Voice : 2.0.0.31
SEQ Length : Main Board : 2.0.0.102
Straight Note : Analog : 2.0.0.103
Triple Note : Filter : 2.0.0.103
Dotted Note : Matrix : 2.0.0.103
1/4 : Audio Mod : 2.0.0.103
1/8 : LFO : 2.0.0.103
1/16 : KBD Wheels : 2.0.0.103
1/32 : FX's : 2.0.0.103

If one of your MatrixBrute boards is not up to date, you can update it manually.
To do that, repeat the operation, but instead of holding the Play button: Hold Record + the corresponding board button.

The MatrixBrute should then freeze for several seconds, and display FWOK at the end of the process.

I stay at your disposal if you need any further informations/help.

Best Regards.

Yes!! that did the trick Edouard ... only the main board seemed to be updated to 2.x, everything else was still at 1.x. After updating each component, everything works as expected.

Thanks so much for your response, and also to endreola for your help!  ;D

Hello !

This means that you forgot to do the second part of the update.
There are steps that you need to go through to get it properly updated  :)

Step 1: Update of the main board
Step 2: Reboot the unit
Step 3: Start the update of the sub-boards
Step 4: Reboot the machine

On your side, you probably forgot to go through steps 3 and 4.

Best Regards.
