How do you get the sound guys to use a mic instead of a DI?
« on: August 28, 2019, 12:12:20 pm »
I've been playing gigs with a band for about 7 years. In the early days I used a small combo amp, so it didn't really matter to me how the sound guys amplified my sound. A few years ago I bought a Fender Bassman with a cab (fucking great sound) though, and since then I'd prefer to use a mic. I always say I prefer a mic to a DI but they almost always say they don't have the right mics or 'a DI is easier to mix'. I don't want to feel like I bought this stack for nothing but I also don't want to be a dick by insisting they use a mic. How do I get them to mic my cab in a reasonable and friendly way when they're stubborn to use a DI?reverse phone lookupnba reddit

Many thanks

Difficult one. Personally if I was your sound guy I'd try to respect that fact that part of your signature sound is your cab, that said I do realise they're on a tight time schedule and tight resources and it's usually easier to just DI you. Some cabs also sound pretty crap mic'd up particularly if they're prone to internal vibrations or if they react to vibrations coming up through the floor.
