To get the DAW controls working, I followed the advice to add a Mackie HUI to Cubase devices then in MIDI control centre to change my Keylab Essential to HUI mode. Now the keyboard sends regular control messages around every second, all the time. Is that normal?

I attach a screenshot that shows the control messages from the list editor in Cubase of a track where I record and do nothing else.

I am using Cubase Pro 9 on Windows 10.

Hi JulesB,

This is an expected behavior. In fact this is how the HUI protocol works. It sends a ping every seconds to the KeyLab Essential saying something like "Hello are you still there ?", and we are responding to him with another message saying something like "Yep still connected".

Regards,

Matthieu
