Turn off tied notes?

Maybe I missed this in the manual, but how do I turn off tied notes in the step sequencer?

By which I mean, how do I make them not tied. I know how to turn them off...  ;)

Set knob mode to gate then turn the knob anticlockwise by one click.  That will bring the gate time to "99" and untie the step.

I might be wrong

but I just press and hold the 2 steps  between the notes I want to tie
and then just press the same 2 steps to turn the tie off
