I'm On Fire - Bruce Springsteen
« on: February 14, 2017, 02:53:48 pm »
Hello,

This is my first post!

I was wondering if any know how to make the sound that Roy Bittan plays on the Springsteen son "I'm On Fire".  I've read a lot and found that it was played on the CS-80 but I can't seem to get that kind of sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Eric

For that you may have more success with a Nord Lead!

Why not see if you can edit the preset "Soft Pad Phrenetic" ?
I would believe you can make a sound that's very close in CS-80 V. Go thru the pad presets.

Hi Eric

it would help to know

- if there is a specific part of I'm On Fire CS-80 (minutes:seconds) you are thinking of
- which controller you are using and whether you know how to (for example) adjust the filter cutoffs and envelope releases

Listening to this synth part, I am hearing a pretty standard lower register flute-type (low LPF resonance and frequency) sound but then also sometimes a higher-register sound and I'm guessing that one had a higher velocity threshold and also higher filter resonance

Some of the presets that might get you "in the ballpark" (with more tweaking required) are

Soft Pad Phrenetic (dial down the chorus and make Release shorter)
Living Water
Pad Wheel Filter
Sweep LF Os
Thin Depth N Soft

Arturia designed the CS-80V to emulate the original closely but also to have a much wider sonic range, which means getting to some sounds used on the original CS-80 might require extensive tweaking.
