Kind of quiet output?
« on: December 16, 2016, 09:54:15 pm »
Hey!

DRUMBRUTE just arrived. I'm in love! Issue though... Mix Output is super quiet. I have to have Master and all drum levels up all the way and it's still not very loud.

Anyone else have this issue? Is there something in MIDIControlCenter I'm missing? Thanks!

- Brandon

Edit: Maybe it's just me. Levels in Logic look good...

Hi , It should have a good level from the box . check your leads   also check with headphones .
if still low you may need to replace it.

Hi Guys !

Please note that Mix output is Mono !!!!

If you are using a headphone or TRS jack on this output this probably explain this behaviour.

Best Regards

the two bassdrums are not loud enough and the weakest part of the machine imho . compared to the other sounds.

I agree that the kicks are too low comparing with the rest of the sounds. For the kicks to come thru i canīt have the rest of the sounds louder than 3/4 which makes the whole level very low, cause even with all at max levels itīs not that loud. In Ableton i always have to turn any other track much lower than DB.
I went to a friendīs studio to listen to it thru big speakers and playing with the same gain as an electribe and a raveolution it sounded lower specially the kicks.

I noticed the same thing. I wish both kicks' outputs (and the snare's, why not) were much louder in the mix because as soon as use you start using the other channels they tend to get buried in the mix. It's the only downside I found from the DrumBrute so far. I love everything else.

I was able to kind of resolve this in my DAW...

1. Set all knobs on DRUMBRUTE to 12:00.
2. Set all input levels on interface to 12:00.
3. In DAW (Logic), add Gain plugin to channel strip and tweak it until -18dB FS is the limit for the DRUMBRUTE (and all other instruments). This ends up being a Gain of about -10 to -12, usually.
4. Now adjust levels on the DRUMBRUTE and everywhere else as needed.

Result is plenty of dynamic range without clipping or being less audible.

I haven't tried the main mix output yet (only just un-boxed the Brute) but the headphone output seems pretty low to me. I've tried three different headphones with it and my poor old-person ears are craving a lot more volume (and yes...I know about the pop-out volume knob...). I get a higher level out of a battery-powered monotron by way of comparison.

Hopefully there will be a firmware fix for this.  When using headphones I generally have everything turned to max volume , even the headphone output.  Doesn't leave much room for adjusting the volume of individual voices.
When I use the individual output jacks the volume is twice as loud.
