Auria pro volume fader jumping erratically when BSP playing
« on: September 20, 2016, 01:21:54 pm »
Hi,
I have MCU enable in MMC.
I have MCU enabled in Auria Pro.
Entered control mode/MCU on BSP
On BSP, knobs 1-8 pan nicely on Auria. Knobs 9-16 move the Auria volume faders but it first seems to register a 0 as on first movement of the knob, Auria fader will jump to 0.
If I then hit play on BSP and move the volume fader knobs, the graphical fader on Auria goes mental. The fader keeps jumping to 0. For every turn I make of the knob, the graphical fader will jump back to 0. This makes for a very jittery affair as Auria's fader is jumping from the new value sent by BSP knob turning back to 0 many times a second.
I wonder if this is a bug or are there some settings that need to be adjusted?
The pan knobs work fine.

From Midivision:-
On BSP in control/MCU mode the faders are sending out pitchbend data with values from 0 to 16368 from their respective midi channels.
There's also a constant stream of cc's. Not sure where they are from. The cc number changes every so often.
I would imagine it is this background data that is zeroing the faders.
BSP doesn't seem to respond in HUI mode at all.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you..

So if BSP is clock slave, the Auria faders do not jump and function correctly, apart from jumping to 0 on initial movement of the BSP pots.
BUT the BSP pots are still sending pitchbend info to Auria also so i get volume control combined with pitchbend. This can sound interesting but of rather limited use.
BSP is in MCU and controller mode.
Is BSP supposed to send a stream of pitchbend data from the pots whilst in mcu mode?
Is the spurious data supposed to be sent as per MCU protocol and Auria isn't processing it correctly or is BSP sending erroneous data?
I've looked for these answers and haven't found what I want.

So far. No reply from Arturia on here or to my ticket. I will be taking the BSP back soon if I don't hear anything.

Midi jumping is usually down to the way the control is being saved, either absolute, relative 1,2 or 3.

Experiment with the knob option in the beat step MCC window.

hi stuart.
I am way past the tests you are suggesting. the BSP knobs 9-16, in MCU mode with PLAY enabled are sending -8192 pitch bend value with every increment or decrement of the pot. so, 2 values - the real one and "0". This explains the jump but i do not know if this is erroneous data or Auria Pro is misinterpreting. I.E. Arturia or Auria. So far Auria seems to have MUCH better after sales support than Arturia.

Yes. Factory reset done. I need to know if the BSP MCU protocol is designed to send LSB/MSB pitch bend messages from knobs 9-16. Can anyone answer this?

Finally, a question. 😜5 posts in and that's the first time you have actually asked a question. Sometimes needed but these forums are always a discovery process trying to get to the real questions 😀

I can't see why they'd have that control over the first part of control and not the 2nd?
What's you full signal chain?

Perhaps the iOS device is garbling the messages from hardware to software?
Have you tried another sequencer or hardware unit that employs direct midi connectivity?

Or another device that controls your iOS sequencer correctly?

Once you have tried that you can diagnose which part is giving you the issues.

Thanks, Stuart

Stuart.
There are several questions before. Even in my first post.
MCU protocol uses pitch bend for volume fader info due to using 14bit resolution. BSP knobs 1-9 are MCU pan.
Thank you for trying to help but I need someone with more technical experience of MCU protocol than myself.

Ok, no problem.

Th first steps are always to replace what is giving you the headache to see if that rectifies it. If not, you can then get deeper into it.

Forums are an ok place to start with but I'd recommend sending in a support request and then just badgering them, who better to ask than the guys you made it, right?

Cheers, Stuart

Ticket is open with Arturia but they are not forthcoming with any useful help. My first and possibly last product from them.
