What is the use/purpose of the different sustain modes?
« on: June 29, 2016, 05:52:46 pm »
You can choose two sustain modes (on the bottom toolbar):

1) Legacy
2) Normal

In the manual it says "Define if the sustain is cut or maintained if a note is re-trigged while being already in sustain phase.".

I have tried both modes on the same sounds and haven't noticed any difference. I'm not sure if I misunderstand what it's supposed to do or if it's a bug.

If it's not a bug can someone point me to a preset where the difference is noticeable or explain me what it is? Thank you   :)

The so called "Legacy" mode is related to "Hold".
The so called "Normal" mode is related to "Release".

An example for the difference could be the preset "Pro Clavinet" in P5 - V3.
1. Select the preset.
2. Use "Legacy" mode. - Result you have a release/ sustain effect.
3. Now  use "Normal" mode. - Result you have no audioble effect difference between using the pedal or not.
4. Adjust the release - Now you have an effect to the amount set of the release when you activate the pedal. Both VCA and Filter releases is affected, so you can try different settings and hear the difference.

Hope this will help.

Thank you LBH,

Ok I guess it only makes sense if using a pedal, I don't have that yet. I will try these kind of things when all these issues are fixed.
In the meantime I think I'll start reading the original prophet manual from the 70's , it will be less confusing. The sounds are great though  :)

You can get a pedal and try it out.

Most of it works. Only there seems to be a fault setting the "Normal" release fully. But i think most use "Legacy" mode.

I have edited my previous post.
