So, is the option to retrigger the LFOs on the agenda?
« on: May 28, 2016, 03:07:29 am »
From what I saw of the old forum, the option to retrigger LFOs has been highly sought after for the Modular V for a really long time. Is that on the plan anytime soon? It would definitely do a lot to make the Modular V more suitable for more modern music.

Hate to say it but I assume this means no.

Do you mean to have the LFO cycle commence/restart on a specific event e.g. key down, envelope trigger etc?
Yes, that would be super useful. There's space for some UI to control this just above the LFO's 5 output jacks, or next to the FM IN jack

Yep, exactly what I mean, thank you for the +1.

Right now I go about getting that effect in a roundabout way using CableGuys MIDIShaper (recommended! Check it out) but considering how essential this feature is for a lot of electronic music styles, it's disappointing that Arturia doesn't have it.

Kills me, the Modular V would be a real monster and a true one stop shop if only they would just polish it and put in a couple more features.

This feature is so needed and wanted. It's standard and should be.

LFO MIDI sync is not synced to the beat - but only to the tempo. Not useful. What's the point in having MIDI sync if it sync different everytime you play?
All MIDI sync functions need reset/ retrigger possibility to be sure it's played the same way every time.

A LFO like the one in B3 that also have the possibility to set the phase could be implementet.

This applies to ARP 2600, CS80, JUP-8 in addition to Galaxy, MINI, Modular, Prophet.

Also Time slices in Synclavier could use a Tempo Sync as someone requested in Synclavier forum.

The current MIDI sync functions is actually more like Dummie functions or some kind of gimmicks. We need functions that work in a usable/ useful way please.

This feature has also been requested for a very long time.

Best

Yeah, I think the fact that the LFO doesn't synchronize to the beat but only the tempo makes it really difficult to use in professional settings because it does in fact sound different every single time. I would consider the LFO resetting every time the DAW plays (when midi sync is turned on) to be an even more urgent issue than retrigger. Obviously if Retrigger was available then it would work that way in practice.

Thank you for acknowledging this issue exists Ben, please bring this feature in because it would go a long way to make the Modular V as a whole more useful.

I just realized something...

EVEN THE SAMPLE AND HOLD HAS A TRIGGER!!!

You know, for the internal clock, so that the sample and hold can sound the same every time. They even go so far that once the trigger input is connected, there's an automatable switch for the trigger.

Arturia, so many of the modules have trigger inputs, why not the LFOs as well?

In todays updated applications  Jup-8 V3 and SEM V2  sync is unfortunately still not synced to the beat - but only to the tempo. Not too useful sync function.
All MIDI sync functions need reset/ retrigger possibility, to be sure it's played the same way every time.

Wait, even the Jupiter 8, with that fancy 'galaxy' rotating lfo? They go through the trouble of programming in such an exotic (and admittedly interesting) feature but they don't do something as basic as a retrigger, sequencer trigger feature?

Ridiculous, I was looking it up and there are analog modular synthesizer LFO modules that have retrigger...

Does Arturia even play their own synths?

I too would like the LFOs to retrigger at the same place when synced to tempo

yeah, retrigger and phase controls please!
Just found out that it's not implemented in Modular.
The fact that it's not in the original doesn't count as excuse  ;)  as w/o these the Lfos are quite unusable when used in a rhythmic patch.

Arturia may be underestimating the value of adding this option.

Just as one example, having this simple retrigger option on the LFOs would open up a HUGE number of possibilities for creating more advanced sequences with the Modular's sequencer.

aargh, i just found this thread after posting in the prophet forum, i didn't realise it was universal to all the v collection plugs.. DAMN>>> this really makes them pretty unuseable for modern edm production, it seems like it should be such a simple problem to solve aswell!
