Connectivity, how are output targets saved?
« on: January 28, 2015, 05:50:00 pm »
Beatstep Pro seems to have great connectivity.
My questions have to do with how it will utilize these
connections in a case of controlling both cv/trig + midi devices.

- Will it be possible to assign cv or midi channel
per sequence in the melodic sequencers? In other words,
is output target defined and saved per project, per sequencer
or even per sequence basis or somehow else?

- If I'm using 8 drum trigger outputs, plus one or two midi
drum modules, will I be able to assign midi channels/notes
independently to remaining 8 drum tracks?

- Is there a midi thru/filter option, for example connecting midi
master keyboard to Beatstep Pro Midi In, or how should one
connect midi kb in this case?

Another thing considering Beatstep Pro and it's many potentials.
It would be nice to split/layer sequencers note range for handling larger amount of instruments by sending to different midi channels, even though it's been said it's sequencers are monophonic. But to make all possible use of it's many connections such a thing could be considered?

Hi Jahasw,

You will be able to assign MIDI channels per sequence in the melodic sequencer. It is saved per project (one channel for each sequencer: SEQ1, SEQ2 and DRUM).

For Drums, MIDI and Gates are not exclusive. You can send the same signal to both an analog drum module via gate outs, and to a MIDI module. There are 8 drum gates, so you still have 8 pads that can be used with MIDI only. You can only set one MIDI channel for the drum output, but you can define the drum map (notes sent by each pad) in the MIDI Control Center application.

MIDI Thru, I can't tell for now, I'll let you know once I have more information on that. Given that the BeatStep Pro processes incoming MIDI (for real time recording, sequence transpose, ...), we can't have a full Thru mode, at least for the channels/notes that are effectively used by it.
