Prophet-V and Cubase 4 under MacIntel machines
« on: November 16, 2007, 12:16:41 pm »
Hi dear Prophet-V enthusiasts,

As reported through our support department and in many threads here, the Prophet-V simply doesn't work under MacIntel machines running Cubase 4.

What the hell is the reason? Here come some elements of answering:

When Apple released their MacIntel machines, we tried to make Universal Binaries updates as fast as possible, so the Prophet-V one was released BEFORE Cubase 4.

Few monthes later Steinberg released Cubase 4, but we realized that  it was only compatible with VST 2.4 plugins on MacIntel machines. As the Prophet V is VST 2.3 plugin, Cubase 4 refuses to load it on MacIntel.
At least, PC/Windows platforms don't have this huge problem.

At this time, we unfortunately didn't have time enough to upgrade the Prophet-V to VST 2.4 immediately.
But as of today, we have now started working on fixing this problem, and we are confident in the fact that we will be able to provide an update hopefully in a very few weeks.

Some of you will argue we should have communicated long time ago.
They are simply right.

Others will also argue we should have issued an update monthes ago, ideally they are right also, but even with the best will (and maximum cafeine rate) we cannot produce more code than we actually do:
_ for now 2 years, Origin hardware synth project has aspirated so much resources we could hardly mobilize more than a few developers on other projects; as you can imagine, this is currently our biggest resource-consuming activity;
_ this year we produced the acclaimed Jupiter-8V synthesizer, and it was a nice piece of work;
_ Analog Factory 2.0 and its "Experience" extension have also mobilized great resources;
_ a big update for Brass is also currently under heavy development;
_ and some nice other projects I won't tell you any detail here (nor anywhere else :wink: )...

We are a small but valued company, with talented developers who are also synthesis fanatics, passionate with their craft, obsessed with sound quality and signal-processing algorithms efficiency, so much that sometimes it may conflict with marketing imperatives. No need for crying, just be sure we really do our best to make always better synths, never forgetting our users base.

And unlike many companies, even if it (definitely always) means development costs, we offer the updates/upgrades for free to all our users...

We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience and misunderstanding this lack of communication may have caused. Hope it won't detract the delight of making music with our products.

:idea:
