OSX JP8 Standalone = No Preferences
« on: September 14, 2007, 06:54:18 pm »
Just purchased the V collection - very much worth it ! Wishing to play the standalone version but there is no preferences menu. There is only 1 menu called Juiper-8V which lists Services, Hide Jupiter-8V or Hide others as the only options. There is no preferences option to be found - so I can't set up audio or midi settings.

When I just ran the Arp2600 standalone, it popped up a notice and asked if I wanted to open the Preferences panel. Jupiter-8V never did that.

MiniMgV asked if I wanted to open the Preferences panel.

Prophet V asked if I wanted to open the Preferences panel.

CS-80V asked if I wanted to open the Preferences panel.

Only Jupiter-8V is doing this, I guess. All the other applications have additional File, Menu and Help menus.

Also my Mg Modular CDROM would not read on my Mac G5 dual 2.7Ghz. It keeps spitting it out. I already sent a note to Technical support so I hope this gets looked at soon.

Anyway, awesome software and I hope you might have ideas on what I should do to get the Jupiter-8V application to work correctly. I deleted the "midi.prefs" from the Library/Preferences folder, but it just makes a new one the next time I run the application.

Aso interesting that your preferences panel doesn't allow me to select which MIDI inputs or USB inputs to use. They are all on, I guess. Except of course for the Jupiter-8V. None of my USB or MIDI keyboards talk to the application.

I hope you can help !!

These are all tested of course with the latest updates downloaded from your website yesterday.

Regards,

Hi John,
It looks like you and I both got the V collection at the same time and are having the same issues. This one has a solution, though, I'm happy to report. In what must certainly be one of the most unintuitive features I've ever seen, the audio and midi prefs are hidden under the File menu at the upper left of the interface window. If that's in the manual, I missed it, just like you did, but when you hold your mouse on File for a second, a little drop down menu will appear with an Audio/MIDI Prefs and a Quit menu selection. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with the A/M prefs. Some of the ports that I've checked, don't work but then I've got one that's unchecked that seems to be fine. I can't figure it out. I've trashed preferences a few times, but the behavior is erratic for the J8V standalone. Anyway, I have to agree with you: when everything is working, these things sound great and they're a lot of fun. Good luck...

One issue I have with these plug-ins is that each has it's own quirks with the basic interface. For example, the CS80 has the MIDI and audio choices at the very top of the menu where on the Jupiter 8 they are under the "File" tab at the top of the plug-in interface while the others are under a file menu at the top of the monitor. VERY CONFUSING !!

More effort needs to go into keeping the interfaces consistent and easy to understand.

Thank you so much for replying, scoplunk..... Scott ??  :D

Got it in one! And yes, I completely agree that this interface "reinvent the wheel" mentality isn't very helpful to the end user. It always puzzles me when functions that are identical are presented differently from one product to another within the same product line. In my short time around this forum, I get the impression that a lot of effort is going into the Origin, so many of these obvious bugs and UI inconsistencies are being ignored for the time being. I hope this stuff will be sorted out as soon as the Origin is finished.

Yes, I'm reading a lot about Arturia wanting to bring out new products but not fixing the ones that they have out that need fixing !! That is not a good way to keep customers happy..... My Modular Mg CDROM is not readable so I can't even check it out (yet) but the bug list for that one plug-in is huge - but so is the plug-in design......

See you at NAMM :D
