Controlling Patterns with Automation
« on: November 22, 2013, 01:13:48 am »
Hey does anyone know how to Automate switching patters in Ableton Live?  I've seen the "next pattern" automation  in the Spark clips but don't know how this works, looked for videos and posts but no explanations on just how it's done.  Is this done in pattern mode or Song mode?

Don't know about Ableton at all, but this has worked for me in Cubase LE4: put in record mode for Spark track (same as recording MIDI notes from your keyboard), while DAW is recording, manually switch drum patterns on Spark VDM gui.  I forget if I was in Song or pattern mode.  Maybe it doesn't matter.  Try both if you must.

What I decided to do was not use song mode and use the "Next Pattern" controller in Lives' envelopes to switch patterns in pattern mode.  It's working out mostly but I'm still getting lags and glitches.  For instance at one point in the song a synth wobble sounds where there isn't supposed to be one.  Right now I'm still working in session view and I'm battling latency with Lives' settings all the way at 1024 so it's probably related to that.
