New To Mgs

How extensive is the manual?  Will I get enough information from it to program some good sounds or will I have to look for outside information sources for learning how to program and operate the Mg V?

It provides a decent springboard into the universe of modular synthesis. On the plus side it is well written and simple to follow. I'd consult a more advanced text for increasing your skills:

Brief descriptions and general how-to info about the modules in an actual hardware Mg (belonging to UCSC, a smaller-scale version of the Modular V).  Pretty useful stuff, interesting to compare the similarities as well as the differences between the hardware and software versions.

There is also a more general analog synth article here (reprint from Sound On Sound magazine):

It's long, contains no pictures and does not focus on the Mg, but it does a good job of introducing the reader to the general ideas and concepts of analog synthesis and synthesizer programming.
