Randomness does not work quite as stated
« on: March 18, 2023, 04:49:53 pm »
Greetings

The KeyStep Pro Manual says in 4.2.10.5

Quote
In Step Edit mode, the Randomness encoder lets you choose, for each note, the probability that it will trigger, from 0% to 100%. If there is more than one note stored in the selected step, each note will trigger randomly according to the current Randomness setting.

but itís not that simple. I had a dyad on each step of an 8 step sequence, and in Step Edit mode I selected each step and set Randomness to 50%. What happened is it was either playing the dyad or nothing on each step, tested by listening to the output going to a polysynth. What I want, and what the manual implies, is to play either the low or high note of the dyad (the output is a monophonic synth so if it outputs both it will play just one according to the note rules on the synth). Firmware is 2.0.1.
What you have to do is:

  • Record one set of notes
  • Enter Step Edit and set them all to 50% Randomness,
  • Enter Overdub and add the second layer of notes, and as you enter each one, reset the Randomness to 50%^ (it will default to 100% on the overdub pass
  • Exit Step Edit and Overdub
