Keylab 88, continuous sustain pedal, Yamaha FC3A
« on: January 19, 2023, 09:45:02 pm »
Does the Keylab 88 (not the Mk II) sustain jack accept continues sustain pedal? The answer is NO!!!!
Does the Yamaha FC3A work with the Keylab 88? The answer is NO!!!
Below, I have listed my email conversation with Arturia (including the unnecessary info from Léo about a Midi monitor), so you guys can see for yourself.
Of course there is a way around this;
1)   stick the sustain pedal in the expression jack (but then you use your expression pedal, not ideal) or,
2)   get something like this; https://www.tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-pedal-controller

I own the Keylab 88. Can i use a continuous sustain pedal, pluged into the keylab? Should i set the sustain pedal Mode, in the MIDI Control Center to Continues Control (inverted Control)? I want to use it with Pianoteq 7

Hi Marcus,
Thank you for reaching us and sorry for this inconvenience.
Normally, as long as the sustain pedal is operating properly and sending the appropriate messages, it should work fine straight ahead.
 •   Would if be possible for you to proceed with a Midi monitor of your controller while depressing and releasing the sustain pedal in order to clearly confirm which precise Midi messages are being outputted ?
The message sent when depressing the pedal should be a Sustain message (CC 64 message) and the value sent as indicated below (displayed in Hexadecimal) :
- 7F when fully depressed (Which corresponds to 127 full Midi value in decimal)
- 00 when released (Which corresponds to 00 Midi value in decimal)
•   To check this, please download a Midi monitor utility provided below :
 Mac OS: https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
Windows: http://www.midiox.com/?http://www.midiox.com/moxdown.htm
- Once installed and opened, make sure to select your controller in the Input list and then depress completely your Sustain pedal and then release it.
- Check if the needed messages are sent, and if the values seems normal:
Then please copy & paste these messages in this ticket.
 •   If your controller is sending the correct message and values, then make sure to try to delete the concerned instrument preferences files:
The following instructions will explain how to delete the plugins prefs files to potentially fix the issue faced:
Mac OS steps:
1) Go to the concerned plugin folder:
a) Open Finder
b) Press: Cmd + Shift + G
c) Type : /Library/Arturia/
> And click on Go.
2) Select the concerned product and open it's "tmp" folder
3) Delete all the files located in the "tmp" folder.
It will reset your plug-in's preferences and potentially solve your issue.
(Please note that it won't harm your installation as these files are automatically re-created on start.)
Windows steps:
1) Go to the concerned plugin folder:
C:\ProgramData\Arturia\<product name>
(You may need to copy "C:\ProgramData\Arturia" in your Windows file explorer address bar to access this folder)
2) Select the concerned product and open it's "tmp" folder
3) Delete all the files located in the "tmp" folder.
It will reset your plug-in's preferences and potentially solve your issue.
(Please note that it won't harm your installation as these files are automatically re-created on start.)
Keep me informed if this solves your issue !
Best regards,

Product: Keylab 88 (Serial: *******) and Yamaha FC3A continues sustain pedal
Hi Léo,I just got my brand new Yamaha FC 3A just came in. I connected it to my Sustain pedal jack and set up MCC as follow: (see PNG file)
But still no luck. It still works as a on/off switch; 00 or 127. This shows in the Keylab 88 info screen aswell in Cubase with a MIDI Monitor
I tested the pedal by connecting it to the Expression Jack. There the values were continues, from 00  all the way thru to 127. So the pedal works fine (it is, as you know, a continues sustain pedal)
What did I do wrong? Is my Keylab 88 broken (again)?

Hello Marcus,
Thank you for reaching out,
Unfortunately the Sustain input is not continuous as it is designed for only switched control pedals,
The only way as you did mention to use a continuous pedal for the full range and intermediary values would be to use the expression input.
This would unfortunately be related to the hardware design to there would not be any other workarounds for this to be bypassed.
Do let me know if you have any further questions,
Kind regards.
