Minilab 3 w/iPad Garageband
« on: November 17, 2022, 05:53:27 pm »
Hi. Just starting my journey in the world of midi controllers and DAW's. I picked up a Minilab 3 to use with GarageBand on my iPad and wanted to know if I need to do something specific to get the knobs, sliders, and transport controls to work. I plugged it into the iPad and was able to play using the keyboard, I just can't seem to get the other controls to integrate.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Thanks!

Hi, just from my general experience, midi controllers used with GarageBand on iOS can only use the basic features like keys, mod wheel, and pitch bend wheel. There isn’t a way that I know of to assign midi to the knobs, sliders, etc…

On a related topic, I picked up the Minilab 3 recently for use with GarageBand on the Mac, and was testing it out with GarageBand on iOS and can not get any sound when I play the keyboard. I am using a direct USB C to USB C apple-branded cable.

I got sounds working in Garageband for iOS with the Minilab 3, I just don't see the keys moving on screen, but that is ok. I am still able to record the parts I am playing.

The standard Apple usbc cable is charge only I believe, a thunderbolt3 (usbc-usbc) cable works fine
