How to reproduce this ePiano sound ?
« on: July 02, 2022, 10:58:29 pm »
Hi everyone,

As a keyboardist but not a specialist in sound design, I'm wondering which keyboard did Roland Orzabal from Tears For Fears used in the song Woman In Chains. You will find in attachment an extract of the isolated ePiano part.

I'm pretty sure I can reproduce it with the V collection but I don't know how... Maybe you have a clue ?

Thank you very much,

Erwan

The sound is higly filtered with what sounds like a low cutoff and a good deal of resonance. It is also chorused or detuned. The attach transient sounds like a Hohner Pianet. The reed electric pianos used some kind of a pulse wave whereas the Rhodes used a complex waveform The SQ-80 has the Rhodes sound in ROM. but I nenver was able to duplicate the Wurlie or Pianet. If you can slow the playback down without affecting the pitch, with Audacity, Waveosaur or a dedicated sampler probram You might be able to pull out samples and put them in Emulator II or Pigments. I have said that Arturia should include the Pianet in it's collection since it was the EP of choice fro groups like the Zombies and other English bands and sticky pads are becoming scarce

Hi,

I don't know which keys was used. My guess will be a Fender Rhodes.
Perhaps you can try to start with something like the factory preset "LA Studio Pop EP 2" in Arturias Stage-73 V2.
In the advanced section you have quite many parameters to edit the piano.

But i will assume many 80's synths can be used. In example DX7. I think Tears for fears have used that, and perhaps also here.
They also layered sounds.
