MIDI routing also for CC messages?
« on: January 11, 2022, 09:56:58 pm »
Hi all,
obviously the KeyStep pro only routes note trigger messages ("note on", note off") but no CC messages from MIDI in to MIDI out. That is very annoying. In my setup I chained a Keylab MKII with a KeyStep Pro to control my own build Synthesizer. I use the Keylab MKII to control all the parameters in my Synth with CC messages. In the following setup

KeyLab MKII --->  MIDI (DIN) ---> KeyStep Pro ---> MIDI (DIN) ---> Synthesizer

both (KeyLab and KeyStep Pro) can play notes (with keys and sequencer), but my Synth receves only the CC messages sent by the Keystep Pro.

The other way

KeyStep Pro ---> MIDI (DIN) ---> KeyLab MKII --->  MIDI (DIN) ---> Synthesizer

is even worse: the KeyLab does not do any routing (neither note triggers nor CC).

To be sure: any of both Controllers connected directly to my Synth are working fine.

Is there a way to have also the CC messages routed throug the chain?

Kind regards,
Dirk

You can change the second midi out, to a thru in the settings and this will allow passing of cc data.

Yeah, I tried that: then it routes all messages from the KeyLab MKII (at MIDI IN) to the Synth, but then the KeyStep Pro itself is not sending any messages to the Synth via MIDI 2. Its only a "through", not a "merge".... :(
