No Arturia ARP Odyssey
« on: July 12, 2021, 10:44:55 am »
Why has Arturia never created an Odyssey plugin? Is it because the 2600 plugin can produce the sounds? Would it be worth creating an optional Odyssey front end for the 2600 plugin for a more Odyssey like experience?

I think you've hit the nail on the head. It's not worth it. The original Odyssey was duo-phonic whereas the 2600 was monophonic without Tom Oberheim's mod, so that was one major difference for a start. But the software version is already polyphonic. There doesn't appear to be a need to market two VSTs emulating different analog synths from the same manufacturer which will basically sound the same (even though they had already done that with the Modular V and Mini V.)

Hi,

To get back to the topic.

The Odyssey have a dedicated HPF to work in series with the LPF.
ARP 2600 does'nt have that, and i don't find the current ARP 2600 V is good at simulating a trick HPF, as it is right now.

Also different Odysseys have different kind of filters. So they does'nt sound similar to each other and perhaps also not similar to the ARP 2600.

I guess Arturia in a future revision could add the few things Odyssey have to the ARP 2600 V as well as the things and functionality the ARP 2600 V is missing from the original.
Only those who would wish to have the Odyssey GUI, and it's workflow, would need a Odyssey then. But perhaps Arturia also could come up with a solution for that.
Not sure how much this will add to sounds.

What do you guys think?
I think you need to stop putting irrelevant hyperlinks in your forum posts, as per this sticky:

Next time, it's a ban.

If this is also true of the MiniMoog and Moog Modular, would not the polyphinic nature of these instruments eliminate the need of a virtual MemoeryMoog. In fact, would not a polyphonic Moog modular be on the other side of AWESOME: In fact scary in a good way?
