Mellotron V and NKS Support Missning
« on: May 20, 2019, 07:06:09 pm »
Hello to all users.

This is a notification, which today, has been confirmed by Arturia Support team.

The following products are not supported by Native Instruments NKS (Komplete Kontrol / Maschine) for direct integration.
B3-V2
CZ-V
Mellotron
Synthy V.

The reason for the publication of this notice is to make all owners of V Collection who either own V7 or intend to upgrade to V7 and are current users of the Native Instruments NKS based system, aware of the fact that the above instruments are at this initial release stage NOT SUPPORTED / RECOGNISED by Native Instruments Kontrol / Maschine systems.

This issue affects customers who wish to integrate the above mentioned plugins directly within Komplete Kontrol  / Maschine, in particular, customers who are blind or visually impaired who use Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol as the basis of handling instruments with a tactile controller such as any of the Komplete Kontrol series interfaces or Maschine interfaces.

I am informed that this matter has been marked as a priority issue and does require attention.

I post this message here due to the fact that not only am I an owner of this software and an owner / developer of Native Instruments products, a working musician and studio owner, but also in my official role as an Accessibility in Music Technology  For The Blind specialist consultant, trainer, developer and promoter of developers who's products make a difference to blind musicians worldwide. With this, this matter takes high priority and needs addressing. This issue should have been resolved BEFORE LAUNCH as Arturia are a registered NKS partner.

If you have any comments regarding the above issue, please submit them as I am sure that Arturia Admin / Developers would be watching this board.

Thank you kindly for your time.

Is there an update on NKS Support status for these instruments?

This was posted in May and it is now August?  Has this been resolved in the last 3 months?

Thank you!

Jeff

It is more than 2 years since this was posted. The Mellotron V product is advertised as NKS compatible. I downloaded a demo version and NKS was not an option, Has NKS support for Mellotron V been been fixed since August 2019?

Hi,

The Mellotron V product is advertised as NKS compatible.
And it is.

I downloaded a demo version and NKS was not an option,
What do you mean by "not an option"?

Are you sure your Komplete Kontrol read the paths to the plugins and the files?
If it does, then perhaps there is a blocking because it runs in Demo mode. I doubt it, but i don't know. NKS work fine here using an activated product.

Has NKS support for Mellotron V been been fixed since August 2019?
There has never been anything to fix. NKS files have been added. It's not something Arturia have to add. New applications usually does'nt have NKS. Untill now Arturia have added NKS a little while after the product release.

When I ran the demo exe file, there was no option to use NKS. There was standalone or VST or RTAS plugins only. I questioned the NKS support because of the 2019 post that it was missing and did not see another that said it was available.

NKS is simply some files, that you can open in Komplete Kontrol. They are installed with the application. As far as i recall, then you don't get any option to select to install NKS or not. But you can just try it in your Komplete Kontrol.
Arturia have nothing to do with Komplete Kontrol. That's a Native Instrument product, so you don't get the option to install Komplete Kontrol, if you don't have it. Arturias own preset system is very powerful. So unless you have a speciel reason to use NKS, then i would'nt. When you save a NKS file, then you can't use it in Arturias own preset system.

Probably the NKS files was'nt availble at the time this thread was created. But some time after they were. As I believe you can read on the product site, that the product have NKS.

The only evidence that installed from downloaded exec is the standalone Mellotron. There are 2 Arturia folders. One is empty and the other contains the standalone. When I downloaded the user's manual it does not show NKS as a format but shows it on the sale web page. Also, is there a list of acceptable midi keyboards? There is in the dropdown after you load the product.

Are you on Windows or MAC? Which OS?
Are you new to music applications?

It's a long tome since i installed a new Arturia application the first time only using a installer and not the ASC (Arturia Software Center) application.
Did'nt you get an option to set a ressource folder location? I would assume you did. Especially, as it does'nt sound like you have other Arturia applications.

However - Unless you have changed any installation paths, and you run Windows, then the files are in the C/ ProgramData/ Arturia/ Mellotron folder ProgramData is a hidden folder by default in Windows. So you have to enable Windows to show hidden folders, if you wan't to find them.
I believe the the NKS files by default install path is installed in a similar Library folder on a MAC.

I have'nt heard of any controller that can't be used for the standalone applications. When you have a controller connected to your computer, and if the computer recognice it, then it should be availble to select in the dropdown list in the application, that you mention.

If you still can't find them after this, then i need to have the installation paths, you are using, to be able to help further.

There is no reason to mention about NKS in the manual, unless Arturia wan't to show it. It appear on the product website, when and if the product get NKS.
Btw - Do you have the Komplete Kontrol software?

I am running on WIndows 10. Have used Pro Tools for 15 years as a DAW but switched to Native Instruments for gigs. I have a samson graphite 49 midi that I use with Kontakt6 controller which is a product in the Komplete package. I have 5 NI libraries for the road but have 10 on my desktop that I use at home. NKS is the file extension that Native instruments recognizes as instruments it will play.

I did not change any installation paths when this loaded.
C:\ProgramFiles\Arturia\Mellotron V is the folder. only the Application MellotronV and an uninstaller is there.
The download folder for Arturia is empty.
C:\ProgramFile(x86)\Arturia folder contains the ASC application.
There was a folder I missed under NI Resources for arturia that contains some info files only (json etc.)

I appreciate the help. I am usually good at this stuff. I have tried many iterations of options and connections before I posted.

Samson Graphite 49 has many controllers on the keyboard that I assign in NI. I figured it would be also good for Arturia assignments. Looked like they controllers are assigned in the same fashion.
I did a search using Kontakt6 for instruments and libraries but nothing new found. I put in the folder location of the application but it was not recognized. I used the resource location in my database search but nothing useful was found.
I am playing the interface on my touch screen keyboard which is killing me.... can't feel the keys.

Thanks again.

Your welcome.

Kontakt is'nt the same as Komplete Kontrol. It's Komplete Kontrol that use NKS as i have written.
You can't use Kontakt for the NKS files.
Have you installed Komplete Kontrol?

And yes, Arturias like many other music applications use midi CC. It's a generel midi standard and not NKS related.

The ressource path you have missed is probably the path you need to find Mellotrons NKS files.
Have you installed ASC? In the preferences of ASC you can see the ressource path. I assume you will see the path i mentioned.
Can't you find C/ ProgramData? (Not Program files and alike - but ProgramData)? Have you enabled Windows to show hidden folders and files? This is very important informations, to be able to see and read the NKS files in a folder.

I don't understand, why you can't select your Samsonite controller in the Mellotron.
Can you please post a screenshot of Mellotrons Audio and Midi settings, where you should be able to select it? I understand you can find, select and use your controller for NI software. Is that true?
In case have a DAW or a applcation for live performance like this https://gigperformer.com/ that use the controller, then you also should be able to use Mellotron as plugin in those applications. And it would be a mystery for me, if you should not be able to find your controller in Arturias standalone applications.

I have found the ProgramData folder and copied it to NativeInstruments database and library folders.
Attached there are 3 pics. Midi in Kontakt. I closed Kontakt and started Mellotron V
a pic of the midi to show it is powered through the USB port.
a pic of the midi list in Mellotron V.
I have tried Generic and other items to no avail.
At this point, should I try to download and install again?

Thanks again.

You have not attached any images. I can't see any. So please post a screenshot of Mellotrons audio and midi settings, and a screenshot from Windows device manager that show your Keyboard is recognized by Windows, if you still can't get you controller set up in Mellotron V. Otherwise i can't help you with this.

You shall not copy or move any files to other locations. Especially, as long as you don't know excactly, what you are doing. So undo the copy pasting of ProgramData to a NI location.

Again - you need the Komplete Kontrol software to use the NKS files. Not Kontakt. Please read my previous post again.
This is Komplete Kontrol: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-kontrol/
Apparantly you don't have and use Komplete Kontrol, and if i'm right, then you can't use Arturias NKS files. I also in your case see no reason why you should.

Did you locate the NKS (Actually NKSF) files on the path C/ ProgramData/ Arturia/ Mellotron V/ Third Party/ Native Instruments/ Presets ?
Keep in mind, that this is just to verify, that the presets are installed and to this location, as missing NKS afterall is the reason for your first post.
To use the presets Komplete Kontrol shall read this path.
This just to inform you. As you apparantly don't know about NKS, then i suggest you use Arturias own powerful preset system. I think that's better.

Sorry I missed the attachments. My family interrupted me and I got back to the reply and just hit post.
They are included now.
One to show the midi dropdown list.
two to show the midi is powered by a USB connection
three to show that Kontakt can identify the keyboard.

Thanks again for your persistence and help.

Really need to thank you for mentioning the audio settings.
The first time I selected it I did not see the midi selector.
I only saw it in the config setting for the controller.
When I read your last post you mentioned to send the audio settings.
I went back and saw the Graphite keyboard was found.
Once I selected it and set the controller to generic and default I saw the interface respond to the keys of the midi.
So Sorry for the bother.
But thanks again for your help in this...
