Random Mod Source
« on: January 08, 2021, 07:10:50 pm »
I would like to see a mod source that gives a random offset to each destination with each key press.

I realize that there is a voices mod source that steps through different offsets with each voice, but that's not random.

You could achieve the random effect with LFO 1 & 2 if they had a one shot mode, but that would use up an LFO. A separate mod source for random offsets would be better.

+1 For one shot setting for the LFOs since this would integrate neatly in the UI (there's no concept of changing the sources).

+1 I'd also love to see the addition of a true random source (apart from the LFOs).

+1 for Random Mod Source

and

+10 for a DC (Direct) Mod Source... I keep on running into situations where I just want to offset a value of a destination in mod source.  It's frustrating to not have DC/Direct... have got to waste the Mod Env to jury rig it, and even with that concession it's not ideal, because micro delays in AR stages/transients.

It's the easiest source to implement... just pass on the mod value directly to the destination.

Perhaps something to the same effect could be done using the sequencer/arpeggiator where each key-press steps through the next sequence/arpeggio note and applies its modulation. DSI had that on their Evolver line of synths. They called it keystep mode or something like that.

That could be done in conjunction with a random arpeggio pattern for random mod source or a sequence with uniform values on all steps to get a direct offset modulation.

I've been using the modwheel as a DC source on a couple of patches. Its position is stored in the patch so it comes right back at patch recall. Not ideal, of course - hopefully only a temporary measure.
