Arturia Keystep Pro - Unit Death after conecting to PC :(
« on: December 28, 2020, 09:09:59 pm »
Hello,

I just bought today my first Arturia.

Very sad, the unit does not work.

This is what happened:

Just connected it to the PC and the lights flashed.
I downloaded the MIDI Control Center.
Upon USB connection, the software started to update firmware.
After that, the unit powered off (no messages).

The unit does not swtich on now.
No lights.
Nothing.
However the PC plyas the sounds of a live USB unit plugged.

I followed your articles, deleted the drivers, nothing.

I also tried on a Mac.... nothing.

The unit seems dead.

Tried a manual firmware upgrade in both MAC and PC... nothing.

Very sad for my first Arturia experience.

Alejandro.-

I followed your instructions Arturia instructions.

Connected the cable from "Clock In" to "Clock Reset Out", powered on, disconnected.
Removed the Arturia device from device manager. Gone.
I also tried to remove the "KeyStep Pro Firmware Updater".... this one appears always when reconnecting.

I downloaded MIDI Control Center again, reinstalled.
I also downloaded a new copy of the firmware file.

Same result.
Software says things like:
"Can not open the device"
"Could not get firmware revision"
"There was an error during the burn process: Cannot find device id"

The unit does not work.
 Any other ideas?

Have in mind that yesterday when I bought the unit, it booted with "Vegas mode", then I plugged it to the computer (as you have a paper in the unit says: "before use, please update firmware".)
I plugged the unit, the firmware started uploading up to 50% and now the unit does no longer have lights.

I have tried with differente USB ports 2.0, 3.0, all direct. (no hubs).

I also tried with another Windows PC and a couple of MACs.. same results.

Sad,

Alejandro.-

Since the firmware didn't finish successfully flashing in the unit, the OS is corrupted in the unit.  I hope Arturia built in a fail safe, where you can force a firmware update in the background.  Once you get a successful flash, you will be fine again.

I would reach out to support and ask them if they have a means to flash the firmware outside of MCC.

I had exactly the same think just happen to me.   :'(

The "Create Account" link is also not working for me on Arturia.com, so I can't contact Support.

Any other ideas on how to fix?

I had exactly the same experience as Alejandro today right out of the box. Also booted in some unresponsive mode and after opening MCC and trying to upgrade it's bricked.

I I tried all the steps from his post above with no luck.

Only difference is I can no longer remove Arturia device and the updater from Audio-Midi-Setup because they no longer pop up.

Waiting for reply from support but the also the thought of having to contact the shop to send it back on Monday is settling in.

No fun.

FYI, to all PC Desktop users, if you plug your USB cable into the front or top USB ports, you are using a hub and the KeyStep Pro doesn't connect properly.  Use a USB port in the back of the PC - these ports are connected directly to the system motherboard, and the MIDI Control Center will detect it correctly every time.

The same thing happened to me today after half a year of no problems. I installed the Midi Control Center Software for the first time today, because I wanted to try to change the CV routing. A firmware update from 1.2.6 to 2.0.1 was offered on first start, I confirmed. After 50% progress an error about a failed "burn" was shown. After closing MCC, switching off the KS Pro and turning it on again, it stayed dark, no matter whether powerded by USB or wall-plug.

Afterwards the KS Pro was still USB connectable. It installs the firmware updater, but the MCC cannot not recognize a firmware on the device and firmware upgrade attempts always break at 50% progress.

Now I have a 450€ brick here from one second to the other and not only my weekend is ruined.
