Keystep sequencer/arp not working with external clock
« on: March 01, 2020, 05:38:39 pm »
Hi,

when I try to connect my Behringer RD 8 drumcomputer as clock source for the Keystep the sequencer won't play. I tried to connect it through clock sync and through Midi. The sequencer won't play a recorded melody in any of them. I also changed the switches in the back according of the i right Input. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks

BTW Your security questions are a bit too much. It took me so many tries to register and post a message.

Couple of things could be the issue.  First check using MCC if the KeyStep is set to Arm to start on not.  This determines whether the KeyStep starts playing when it receives a play message via MIDI or if it waits for you to hit play.  The setting is in the Device Settings tab under sequence settings.  Set this to "Off" if you want the KeyStep to start playing as soon as you hit play on your master MIDI sequencer.
Next double check you have the dip switches at the back set correctly.  The diagram can be interpreted in reverse sometimes due to the dark and light boxes.  So try this: connect the RD-8 to the KeyStep via MIDI and set the KeyStep dip switches to what looks like is the MIDI sync setting.  If it doesn't start playing when you hit play on the RD-8, invert the switch settings.  Also double check the RD-8 don't need to be told to sent sequencer transport messages via MIDI (or if the RD-8 does indeed send transport messages).
Currently running https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1311723 / www.modulargrid.net, sequencing with KSP and recording with a Zoom (no DAW involved, for better or worse ;) )
