How about this idea for a MatrixBrute Expansion?
« on: February 14, 2020, 12:39:58 am »
what about an MB expansion designed like this:

it would contain voice, sequencer, arpeggiator, modulation and preset expansion

- a square MB design flat box, the face side a big touch screen
- virtual matrix
- analog voices (number?) outputs on the side
- communication with MB via USB cable ( midi sync via midi jack)
- really advanced arpeggiator (like ROLANDs iparpeggiator)  & sequencer with page per bar
- drawable modulations, assignable to all parameters
- really good preset management with "unlimited" entries, categories, tags, snapshots like on the MOOG ONE
- maybe some encoders and buttons around the edges

I'm in to any type of expander ideas. It was a thing in the 80s and 90s synths, but seems to be out of vogue now. What a way to increase potential profits for Arturia as well as maximize uses for customers.

maybe my English was not good enough.
i meant an expansion unit for the Matrixbrute, not a separate instrument.

A similar thread: https://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=94999.msg156949#msg156949

Not really, my suggestion here is for an expansion
the other thread is about a keyless MB Version

There is no reason that it couldn't be both. As a shitty example: Yamaha produced the TX7 as an expander to the DX7. If you plug it into the D7X it responds  as such BUT it is also a keyboard less DX7 (that's how I use it, because a brown synth... ewwww)

besides the analog voice expansions:

do you guys think, the sequencer and modulation expansion via USB cable would be possible?

That's a lot of expansion for one box. Normally an expander is a replica of the keyboard version that just adds voices (Xpander, PolyEvolver, etc.). The spec you're giving would be that AND be a patch manager AND add functionality. Then there would be the UI/UX problems to solve, for example what happens if you engage the arpeggiator on the expander and then also on the MxB? Or if you engage paraphonic mode when there are multiple voices?

Honestly I think a MxB mkII would be more likely. But I'd probably consider it if it were available.

A blackbox with at least 3 and up to 7 voices that handles incoming data from the MIDI out of the MxB.

For patch management it would be nice to have a better UI for the software that is already there. i.e. send a patch to the synth with a double click.

Something like a small external touch display for selecting patches can be cool, but i don't see anything like that happening.

Right, but i wrote expansion, not expander.

It all depends on how far you can remote control the MB via USB or Midi cable.

You could shift many duties to the "new brain" and use the MB mainly as controller, respectively combine their functions.

at least something like this, permanently connected to the MB, so you have freedom in patch creating would be such a great relief

(in opposite to ... o sorry, i cannot store this idea now, i only have 256 patches and would have to start the computer now and where is a bank dedicated to bass and... oh and now my flow is gone... )

besides the voice expansion part, this could also be used with other equipment
as stand alone sequencer, modulator, arpeggiator

i think ARTURIA would sell a lot of those

it could even be done with an APP or VST
( only the  sequencer/arpeggiator, modulator & library part of course)

who don't you make the code open source?
