How to use 'Gate source' function?
« on: January 13, 2020, 08:31:15 am »
Hi, I have just got my minibrute, and I have noticed the Minibrute has a switch can set to 'Gate source' position, but when I did a try, I had got short sound when I was pressed keyboard, and then the sound volume kept.decreased until totally disappeared. So how to use this function? Should I connect some external CV voltage into it? I was remember my minibrute can make sound even this switch in 'Gate source' position, am I wrong?

Thanks a lot.

That's explained in the manual, Page 41 or 42:
Quote
4.3.4 Gate Source
The Gate Source switch selects which gate signal triggers the
MiniBrute envelopes. The default KBD triggers the gate from the
keyboard
. Hold mode forces the envelope to the SUSTAIN stage
independently from any other gate source. This mode is very useful for
drones, because there is no need to press a key and you can use both hands to
tweak the knobs! In Audio mode, a gate signal is generated when the signal level
at the AUDIO In [4.3.5] reaches an internally preset threshold.
The threshold value for the Audio mode, as well as several other general settings, can be
adjusted through the MiniBrute Connection software [4.4].

Basically, that switch allows you to use the keyboard as the expected source of gate trigger but also and optionally to bypass that and hold Gate open or use incoming audio input to be the one triggering Gate :)

Thanks for your reply, I may have misremembered the position of the switch, so I have been a bit confused. Now my Minibrute works well, Now I keep the switch in the KBD position.

About  external triggering, I read some information and probably understood. When I find the 3.5mm connection cable, I will try to connect the Minibrute and my BSP to do some experiment.

Thanks again, problem resolved.

Great to hear that :)

Yeah, audio triggering is lots of fun once the threshold (and source gain/volume) are set appropriately :)
